where would you rank KY fishery?? in the states??

I posted this back years ago and found it interesting on all that was posted we have new members now so how do we rank?? myself I would say in the top 5 states for good reason.KY has more running water except Alaska more shore line then even Florida and some very nice lakes and rivers. the ohio river is a Big plus!! lots of species inhabit are waters in good numbers and size:-) and I know other states have good fisheries also have fished a few but to me Kentucky would have to be in the top 5 of are states. all I can say I do love my state would never want to live anywhere else:-))))

I'd say TOP 5.

And I'd almost put KY/TN in the top 1-2 because of multiple species of black bass and very good opportunities for most other species YEAR AROUND.

Florida, California and Texas rank up there pretty high too for year around, and multiple species, but I'm a bass fisherman, so KY/TN needs to be near the top of the list.

Having had the opportunity to fish all over the country Kentucky does have some fine fishing and beautifully scenic lakes to fish but for all around fishing it does has its limitation. First no coastal waters for the obvious reasons and very limited cold water species (trout and fresh water salmon) where it lacks there it makes up for it in diversity of warm water species. Multiple species of bass, Walleye (caught my first one ever at Laurel River) and a vast assortment of pan fish which personally don't do much for me from a angling perspective but fun at times. I’d rank it in the top 15 of states to fish due to Lake Cumberland and its Stripers. But this is one of those questions that really comes down to what type of fish you want to pursue I’d rather throw a 9” swim bait all day and only catch a couple of big fish instead of catching a live well full of 2-4lb bass. It’s really about preference like who is hotter Ginger or Mary-Ann it’s all about what does it for you!.

Mary Ann, been to a lot of states and fished , i would have a hard time ranking ky. in the top 5 only because eastern ky can be very tough at best. central ky is good and western ky is very good. the best bass state i have fished is minnesota. love those smallies.

California was my pick, Stripers, Florida strain largemouth ( I lived on the Delta incredible fishery) Ocean for Salmon as well as the Sacramento river, Lake Tahoe for Lake trout Browns and Kokanee,Clear lake it goes on and on................... But glad I moved the state *****!

I could not put KY in the top 5. You go north and you have months of Great fishing. The cold fish hit all year and the warm fish hit everything you throw for five months a year. Then you go south and you have year round fishing for all fish. Bass and panfish get bigger in the south. KY has better veiws due to lack of development, but the fishing is at best fair. I would say around 15-20th. If you dont count saltwater I would put it around 10-12th.

I've fished a lot of places in the southeast, and Kentucky lakes are my favorite. I rather be on Barren, Rough, or Kentucky in late October. But it's what I'm used to

Top 15 would be about right. Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Texas, California, Tennessee, Louisiana, Maine to name a few that I would rank higher. Most of the coastal states just have so much more to offer.

East KY where i live me and my fishing buddies have always said we are 150 mile from good fishing in any direction. I would draw a line that went from Barren west as being great fishing, comparable to Tenn waters Eastern Ky. Is not much far as i am concerned so far as just going out bass fishing and being able to catch a lot of fish. First time i went to KY and Barkley i came back thinking even less of fishing around where i live.

I'm a native Kentuckian. I lived in Texas for 13 years. I fished 11 months a year, from fresh to salt. It's such a big state I didn't have the crowding issues I've had here. In Kentucky I wade fish the Cumberland River and fish other areas from a bass boat. Cumberland has been off the past few years due to the dam drawdown and too much rain kills the fishing. The bass are bigger in Texas with the longer growing season and the ability of Florida Strain fish to survive. The Texas Coast is a fantastic fishery. Then you have offshore for King Mackerel, etc. If you go out far enough you can fish for Billfish. In Kentucky, a lot of the smaller fisheries I fished when I was a teenager no longer allow access because some guy from New York owns the land and won't allow anyone to fish. I love the diversity and beauty of Kentucky, but I would have to rank Texas above Kentucky for quality.

I should also ad this why I feel KY would be ranked in the top 5. its where I live in KY I guess, I live in Brandenburg 5mins from the river 40mins from rough 30mins from yellowbanks ect ect... my location is a big deciding factor for me.

10) South Carolina

Thats my personal opinion anyway.
