Affordable Care......NOT so Affordable.

So, for shits an giggles I went out and tried to sign up for the "exchanges".

From my income.....and I'm not rich or anything, my premiums for the CHEAPEST bronze plan would be 12,500 a year. On top of that, my max out of pocket for that plan, is 12,800. AND you don't get any tax breaks for saving in a HSA or FSA or MCA.

So, my Affordable Health Care, if my company chooses to cancel me at bare minimum is 1000.00 a month in premium and potentially another 1000.00 a month in expenses.

Lets see....

* That is more than I put in my HSA today.
* That is more than the GUBMENT puts into my SSI benefit.
* That is more than I PUT into my SSI benefit.
* That is more than TRIPLE my House Payment.
* That is more than I put into my 401k for my own personal Retirement.

THANK YOU Obama. I really needed that..........

no one likes Obamacare, but so many people were trying to get it, that they crashed the web site.

Are you signing up? Most of the people crashing the site must not be at work.

About 8,800 for me on the bronze plan if I chose just to insure myself. That is yearly premium + max out of cost. Around $730ish per month just in my head. That'd be $365 a pay period for a 2 week pay period.

Not real sure how that would compare to a private insurance plan before all the Obamacare talk. I've always been on my wife's plan so I've never had to shop for that.

I currently buy my own insurance and pay about $1300 a month for a family of four. This for a plan with a pretty high deductible just to keep it that low, and it is due to go up again this coming January. I went online to check out the rates on the Kentucky exchange and every option but one was less than I currently pay. One I believe was for only $563 per month, but many choices under $900/month. I haven't had the time to do any in depth research, but my first opinion is that we will be able to save a lot if we switched. All along I have been of the mindset that I wouldn't want to switch, but now I have to seriously look into it as an option if I can save that kind of money.

I've been shopping rates for my employees since it opened. We have a truly excellent group plan at present.

There are two - TWO - platinum (high end) plans offered on the exchanges, both by the same company. They are limited to HSA and HRA plans.

Premiums = lower.
Out of pocket = higher. Even on the platinum plan, if a woman has a baby, for example? Almost $3000 out of pocket, right off the top.

The exchanges primarily do two things: (1) shift the cost of medical care from premiums to fee for service and (2) start the process of disengaging health insurance from the employer, paving the way for single-payer down the road.

$16,621 for me and my family. I think I'll stick with Tricare.

Only $22,217 max for family coverage - 2 adults, 2 kids for the silver plan.....a mere $1851 per month max.

Playing around with numbers, etc. it appears that you can count on dropping 8-10% of your yearly income to this if you max out on costs (premiums plus out of pocket max).

Some could benefit, but I sure wouldn't want to be uninsured and make a $1,000 or so above the subsidy cut-off line.

I think we will all find out that Romneycare will help lower the costs of health insurance over the long haul.

There will be glitches in the online web site as there are so many more people visiting the site than expected. That will all get fixed.

This county should have the best medical care available for everyone not just a few people.
