Are there any decent smallmouth spots around Louisville on the river?
I have caught them at the Falls and actually a few good ones but not in the last few years. Why.....I have no idea but it just seems they aren't there anymore at least I can't find them anyway.
Up towards Markland can be pretty good, I had a pig for the river on up there earlier this year but she said goodbye to me on her third Olympic jump in skinny water. Would have probably made five pound which is a real Smalljaw for the Ohio.
I've had several guys tell me the rock stretch of bank against Indiana across from the river road area, say where Captains Qt's and on up can be good at times but I have never fished it myself.
I've caught several nice smallmouth this year in the Markland pool. When the water starts moving, they'll show up.

I fish primarily in the Owensboro area, but have caught lots of smallmouth in the Ohio. You will generally find them in the current breaks at the head and tail of the islands or in rocky bank areas with current near the channel.
I said Markland but meant mccalpine
This may be blasphemous, but I like it better when the spots are biting. I think big spots pull harder. Sorry brown fish... Just saying
Yes I got this one Monday near downtown
I usually just fish Harrods creek but I'm getting kind of burned out on it. Although, I've been doing very well in there. I just need a scene change. I figured trying to catch some smallmouth would offer that up
how far back in Harrods creek have you been going ? And what have you been catching ? Largemouth?
