making fnf bobber
I was told that you can take those bobbers with the weight on them and convert them to fnf "Bob's bobber" by taking the weight off and placing it inside the bobber. Anyone know the trick to this? Found a bunch of the bobbers with weights on them in my basement. Thanks

Send elnutsmalljaws a pm, i know he used to make them. Also geofisher might be able to point you in the right direction. I think they just cut the bobber in half, hollow out the center to put the weight in, and epoxy the bobber back together. The ones i saw were cut around the bobber, not top to bottom

I have converted several of these bobbers.
1: Straighten the wire bottom and take the ends, weight, wire, and spring out.
2: Take an Xacto knife and cut the bobber in half where the color change is.
3: Take a cigarette and burn an indention in the top half of the float, on the inside where you cut it, smaller indention on the bottom half. You will want 3/4 of the weight in the top half, 1/4 in the bottom half. This insures the bobber stays on its side until a pulldown.
4: You will have to cut the wire off some amount, as it is too long now without the weight on the outside of the bobber. Trial and error on this.
5: Put the weight in the bobber, and glue the two halves back together. I use gorilla glue, and clamp the two halves together for a few hours. If you don't get a good glue joint, I have had them start to come apart after 1/2 day fishing.
5: reassemble the spring, run the wire thru and rebend.
This is the method I have used. I would try one and see how it works. Don't do them all until you are sure of your method.

Contact me friend Andrew, aka "smallielover", "fishingengineer". He posted a detailed engineering approach to making the bobbers on smalljaws a few years ago.

thanks for the input guys. elnut actually made the ones I have in my box now. Bard, thanks so much for the detailed step by step instructions. I will definitely give it a try. Much appreciated!

This is about how I too do them.............
Except I use an exacto knife to cut out instead of a cig to burn out the middle......and I use hot glue instead of gorilla glue.
The hotglue is almost instantaneous. And the Exacto instead of a cig is a little healthier :) .
Let me know if you have any questions.
Also, don't be SKARED to use a little bigger bobber. I use the 1 3/4 inch bobber instead of 1 inch bobber for most of my applications. They don't work as well below 50 degrees, but anywhere to 50 they are great, and you get much more distance with them.

FNF bobbers
I found several videos on you tube that shows itfrom start to finish I made up a bunch was very easy, now if I can only get to the lake.

If you do a search "How to make your own FNF bobbers" by Elnutsmalljaws, you will see how he does it. The only problem with Elwood's bobbers is 1 in 5 explode in dust when a 6 pounder hits the jig.

I have never caught a fish on the FNF, much less a 6 pounder, so I don't know if the bobbers explode or not. Would somebody tell me what this FNF is all about because my name gets thrown around a lot when its mentioned.

Elwood, the F-N-F is just what it says it is. You get a big truck heavy-duty intertube, mount a 5 hp Min Kota trolling motor to it, bolt yourself into it, turn it to max, hold your big fly-catching mouth as wide as you can and then see how many flies you can catch during a late autumn hatch.
