Target Store is just TIP of the Iceberg

Friends, this looks like a very serious breech, and it was not only Target.

ZDNet, a technical website I use for lots of stuff is reporting that this was a very sophisticated RAM (memory) scanner, that infiltrated TARGET and others, and captured data.

And the data captured is much more significant than originally thought. Lots and lots of stuff that can be used to wreak havoc on your personal finances.

If you were a shopper at any of the stores in question, and you don't have a "lifelock" type service, you BETTER get one.

I personally think this was a rogue state that did this.......and WHEN we find out who, we should start getting serious about the response.

This isn't a government concern.Commercial info was hacked. It should be possible to identify the rascals, and have a consortium put a price on them.Murder incorporate revived.

This kind of stuff does concern me. How many of you have or may consider a Lifelock type of service? My opinion is that if our so called leaders would have taken this crime of identity theft a more serious offense with major consequences we would not need Lifelock.
What is the penalty? Call your baby ugly and get on probation? From what I gather Identity theft can ruin an innocent person and I can see how that would cost you dearly trying to get it right.

It's getting to the point where I use my credit card (Cabela's VISA, by the way) for everything....and I mean everything. I never use my debit card online and am getting to where I don't use it in the store much. I'm opting to put in on the credit card, earn the rewards points, and pay the bill off when it comes.

I've heard too many horror stories about people who lose the balance of their checking account or savings account and don't get it back.

At least with a VISA, if somebody steals it and racks up a bunch of charges....I aint paying it and will dispute it until they put me in the grave.

Excellent points. I may copy that idea! If u pay the thing off each month the interest rate doesn't matter. The healthcare industry concerns me. With all our data being accessed, written down, typed in and shared it's just a matter of time before someone taps into that or just takes the info.
I just wish we had a better way......I write on my credit card and debit card to ask for ID in the signature line and maybe 1 out of 10 times I use it does anyone even ask. Maybe I should write it on the front as well?

here it says signature, I printed in caps CID. No one looks! You can't pass a law against lazy employees. Thieves will be thieves.I have DD for years with pay check, and the GOV made it mandatory to use it for SS. No stolen checks! Criminals must be made aware that severe punishment is an option. It happened before. The pinkertons used head busters for years. These are commercial problems. hy get tax payer money involved? National security, then use what ever is needed.

They probably just think your name is Cidney (sic).

I've had life lock for several years. I only use a Visa card online, never my debit cards.

Everyone should be concerned about this info breach, ID theft is a giant headache.

I intentionally leave mine blank. I get asked for an ID probably half the time. The other half, because I'm a ****, I'll remind the cashier that there is no signature on the credit card and they should ask for my ID. They look at me like I'm from home office in a sting operation or something. LOL

What amazes me is the people in line that go LOCO because they get asked for their ID. I welcome that and appreciate a cashier that asks, because it's only protecting me too!

I'm becoming more like Dave Ramsey every day if I can't pay for it with cash or write a check I don't buy it. I personally think credit cards are evil anyway.
