CCC Part of the "New Deal"

Anyone remember this? Some of the older gents on here may remember it. From what I read it sounded like a great way to get things done. It wasn't a chain gang (although I am for those as well:)...in some cases) but it was a way to get something for our tax dollar.

Can you imagine having men and women (women's right ya know:p) actually working for the welfare money they are given? Maybe illegals after they are given amnesty (it's coming) to build the wall or security fences on the border as part of the "amnesty deal"?

Just random thoughts but the bottom line is we have millions of able body men and women who need something to do other than sit on their butts and learn how to be another life long member of welfare.

It was a GREAT idea, and it was one of the back to work programs that helped after the great depression. I know of quite a few places up in the Boundary Waters that were old CCC posts.........They are neat to visit.

Ironically some would say we would be just like the USSR if we did try and offer this work program now!

Sorry you can't do that. We got a minimum security prison here and they had work release programs. One of them was to paint the Oblong school rooms and guess what the painters union shut them down Said they were losing union jobs and the state put a stop to it. The prisoners were volunteering to get on work details they liked it and the prison admin were using it to reward good behavior. Guess what the. School could not afford union painters so they got no work and the school did not get new paint.

Yeah that sounds about right. Look what they attempted to do here in Kentucky with the prevailing wage law. They complained enough and sent tons of cash into politics and finally got their way. Instead of competing with the rest of us they had it made into law (special interest at its finest) that we had to use the prevailing wage for the specific area while bidding on state money jobs. With hopes of leveling the bids sent in of course.

So instead of paying guys $25 an hour we had to pay them $52 an hour in specific counties. It didn't work well. They still get very few state money jobs in my area for some reason but the state pays ALOT more for construction of state money projects. Side note... Fayette county school has a $20 million dollar budget crisis that they have to deal with now because they get state money for schools. Wanna bet some of that is the bloated rates they pay for building schools? Schools in this area go over budget and in some cases don't get opened on time. Well hello!!!! Why would a man used to getting $20 an hour bust his butt to finish a job when he makes $35-$40 an hour if he drags his feet?? This is just a few of the problems of prevailing wage laws.
