Cumberland River Fishing Report From 7/16 and 7/17
We fished from a couple miles north of Crocus creek down to Burksville. Wed was fairly sunny and trout were hard to come by until the sun began setting. Thursday rained off and on all day and was perfect for catching fish. We ended up catching 57 fish. (Released them all) Almost all were trout. Mostly rainbows, but 10 or so small browns and a couple brook trout. My nephew did land four 16-18 inch rainbows, all north of Crocus Creek. He even got a small striper to bite on a rooster tail, maybe 22-23 inch fish!! We alwso saw a striper go after a trout that got off my line near the boat. Awesome conditions. River never looked better. Crystal clear. Yellow and Red Rooster tails worked best for us. Couldn't get them to consistently bite on crank baits that have been effective before, but most of the fish are stockers. Can't wait to fish the river in a year when a lot of these fish get some size. One last note, is I love stopping by Strange Bait and tackle and talking to Mr. Strange. He is always helpful.
