After his forced retirement Senator Richard Lugar no longer has to toe the Party Line and tell lies. He's speaking from his heart and finally admitting that the war in Iraq was a huge mistake. There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and Bush/Cheaney and the war hawks mislead him and others into voting for the war Iraq.

At the time I was against going into Iraq, I thought it could only result in Iraq in a giant mess and also with Iran becoming much more powerful and dangerous.

That said your paraphrasing leave something to be desired.

You imply that they purposely lied and mislead, and he not only went along with but continued that lie all this years until now retired.

I view his comments as a man with the benefit of hindsight admitting it was a mistake but done at the time with the motive of having believed there were weapons of mass destruction.

Why do so many people on both sides of political views so often try and twist things to make people look worse. The guy is admitting that now[I] "In retrospect, it probably was[/I]," and really nothing more.

but for the record, Lugar is HARDLY what I would would consider an effective republican senator......He was a RINO, and ran as a pub just to get elected........

You know the reality of this is that some people have the "nuts" to admit when they made a mistake. Yeah it doesn't hurt that he has nothing to lose but if he feels better now getting that off his chest then good for him. I hope Obama has the "nuts" (personally I think he is a woman in drag) to come clean on his mistakes!?!?!? Naw what am I saying!!!!! If only I didn't truly feel sorry for you. I honestly try not to laugh at your posts but sometimes "you totally redeem yourself".

I never thought fighting Iraq over 9/11 made any sense at all. It felt like cleaning up unfinished business from his father's Presidency.

I'm more concerned with the MESS that is there now. IRAQ will be forever a thorn in our ass. If someone doesn't step up in that part of the world we will really have a mess.
