Great day to go fishing!
Today fisherman14 and I decided we were gonna go fishing. Yes, fishing in this. I don't really know why but I've been sitting in my basement messing with my gear and I've been dying to go, so I decided today was the day! In my mind I had imagined that it was gonna be fun, test out my new rods, maby catch a fish or two if I was lucky, and we take our walk through the field and get to the first pond. Looks a little muddy but nothing ridiculous. At this time it was raining (we were ready with our rain suits on though!) and so we start to fish.... Nothing! I'm ok with it though cause I'm getting to use my new lews reel and casting some new baits I got. So we move on to the next pond, and this is where sh*t hit the fan if you know what I mean! Walk up the hill to the pond and there it is, the devil to a fisherman, ICE. And not only ice but I think somebody replaced the pond water with chocolate milk because there was probably 2 inches of visibility. the pond was covering about 80% of the pond so we thought "well crap, let's just fish the open 20%." I dig through my backpack and find about the best vibrating bait I can find because I know I could throw something into the bass's mouth and it wouldn't eat. I take about two casts and then a gust of wind blows my bait mid cast out on the ice. No big deal right, not in this case. I start reeling back and the hook is caught on the ice. Me being my lazy self stands there and starts popping my line hoping to pop my bait off the ice. And as I pop oh so magically I free the spool on my reel for a split second and bang. What every baitcaster fisherman despises. The mother of all birds nest. And I'm the guy who will work on my line to fix it for 30 minutes. But this one was different. This was a velociraptor nest. No human being could undo this. So with my frozen, numb fingers I pick and pick at my line. And at this point I realized fishing today wasn't such a good idea. So we left, and took the walk of shame back home, wet and fish less. Just thought I might share this story so next time your sitting inside your house saying "man I want to go fishin" just remember this story. Fishing in the freezing rain and cold is not fun! But I'm not gonna quit. I'm hooked:cool: Stay warm everyone! And don't forget to eat your milk sandwiches:cool:
