Gas prices
Just when the air temp starts to rise and everybody's making summer plans. Getting ready for vacation, or itching to take the boats out for fishing, our wonderful Governor decides to sign a new bill to raise the tax on gasoline 26 cents per gallon. You know, the economy will never get any better if they keep finding ways to rob the working man. If they keep on going it will AGAIN be over 4.00 bucks a gallon. So much for a long distance fishing trip. What do you guys think about this latest Bull?

They didn't raise the gas tax, they prevented it from falling lower. Just before midnight Tuesday, lawmakers signed off on a last-minute compromise to lower the state's gas tax from 27.6 cents a gallon to 26 cents and freeze it at that level. Without the change, the tax would have dropped 5.1 cents a gallon on April 1. The state will still lose about $100 million from recent drops in the gas tax, which is tied to the wholesale price of gas, "but it would have meant a loss of about $300 million if we didn't have the gas tax bill," Beshear said. Personally I don't think it was a bad thing to do because we have to maintain the roads that we drive on everyday. What was irresponsible was when the state gas tax was tied to the wholesale price of gasoline to begin with.

Years ago when we traveled through Georgia we would always fill up because they were ALOT cheaper than Tenn or Florida. Times have changed and they are pretty close to the other states now. I guess the politicians in that state figured out they had a windfall of tax money waiting to be grabbed so they did.
Our recent trip to Florida wasn't that bad on fuel costs when compared to what it could have been if fuel was closer to $4 a gallon!!
