WTF you talking about?
A 73 year old volenteer deputy shooting a black guy already in custody, and claiming it was an accident. tulsa OK. An accident occurs when the gun goes off in the holster. Out of it, you're responsible.
There shouldn't even be a 73 year old volunteer deputy who is authorized to carry a weapon in the first place. Who thinks that's a good idea?
I'm not defending the wannabe Barney Fife for making an inexcusable screw up but besides the fact that the media seemingly only publicizes these events when the officer is white and the shooting victim is not white the overwhelming majority of these cases has something else in common. The shooting victim was running from the cops.

Age is irrelevant and should not be in the question. Just the idea of a "volunteer deputy" carrying a lethal weapon while "on duty" is the question and no I think the whole concept of a lethally armed volunteer deputy is ridiculous just like the locally elected constables are in Kentucky.

My personal opinion of anyone in law enforcement is that they should have to qualify with their weapon each year and pass a physical fitness test. You don't pass the weapon test then you don't carry. You don't pass the PT test you get penalized.
Heck while I'm at it.....
I also think older folks should have to pass a drivers test along with eye exams. People either prove they can handle a vehicle or they don't get the privilege of driving.

I didn't say they were a joke or they didn't make a difference. I said it is an elected office which means anyone that can win an election in their magistrates district can be a constable with no certified requirements, no certified standards and no training. The constable position has been called a hobby by credible law enforcement officials and as a hobby, the office shouldn't have the same law-enforcement authority as trained and certified professional officers. The same applies to volunteer deputy's.

What if he or she had a CCDW? I'm asking because I carry when I want and have passed a written test and fired at some targets to get my CCDW. The training was basic at best and I firmly believe most people won't carry anyway and some shouldn't because they are dangerous even without a weapon. My military training and experience with firearms far surpasses the requirements for civilians to have a CCDW.
I believe we have the right to bear arms and I hate gubment interference but I'm smart enough to recognize a bafoon when I see one and I know several that shouldn't carry even though they passed the test. Would an elected official be any different?

Irresponsible............and I believe Tulsa will be paying for a long time......
And Gramps should be charged, and if found guilty, should spend time in the slammer.
I suspect he will not spend a minute of time in prison though. He's a fairly well to do exec, and will have a top notch defense team.
Oh, and the PERP.....he was a bad dude. Didn't deserve to die like this, but BAD none the less.
I don't volunteer! If a natural disaster occured, and if I could be any HELP I would. But I'm not going to give away my time on earth for nothing! I'm selfish, my years of PTA little league, boy and girl scouts ended long ago.Found out in many cases I was just an unpaid baby sitter. Let some of these dead beats be compelled to earn part of their keep by doing these chores. And these old codgers who work because" they can't sit around" stay home and quit cluttering up the working world, all you are doing IMHO is causing slower traffic. You want to do something useful in your "golden years" go be a scarecrow.
