Nothing in the world can touch it.
These Marine version of the F35 Fighter Jet is cool. But they spent a fortune on those things and now the Chinese have the same plane that we built. We spend billions on design research etc. and the Chinese spent pennies to steal the plans from the Defense Contractors that built the plane. Life is not fair. Add in the Cost Overruns and the fact that the entire plane is now basically obsolete as a air superiority fighter and a new better plane 6 gen will have to be designed and built to stay ahead of China and you see why President Eisenhower said: "Beware the Military Industrial Complex".
I love the fact that we have a new plane but I think that the people that helped the Chinese steal these plans before they even get into mass production should be shot. There is too much money being made and these people are not really thinking about our country as much as they are thinking about how much money they can make.
Think about it. If they give the plans or allow the Chinese to steal the plans by not securing them properly then they will be able to get another contract to design an even newer plane and make even more money in the future.
The Chinese are spending money and extending their sphere of influence and even making new islands in the South China Sea where they can man with new planes and weapons and control more of these international waters between Vietnam and Japan and China. This is the same areas we fought over in WWII which cost millions of dollars and thousands of lives. Now someday we will have to do all that over again but now with nukes. Scary stuff.
PS: What's with that Yellow Jacket guy at 43 seconds into the video when he runs right behind the jet and though the exhaust of the jet. I'm surprised that the jet exhaust didn't knock him down or burn him badly.

good video, but look like the big hood looking flap sticking up would catch a lot of air while in flight, i wonder what that is for.

I was wondering as well. I figured it was for helping to get the nose up. Maybe the thing is nose heavy? It was odd looking that's for sure.

It is the ducted fan that is used for vertical takeoff and landing.

That big open hood is to allow air to flow though to the turbo fans inside the jet under that hood. Those fans help to life the jet for vertical take off and landing. Notice how they were closed when the jet started up but opened up before taking off. The vertical thrust from that fan in the middle of the fuselage and the rear (Vectoring) jet exhaust nozzle is turned down to help it take off on a short runway or from a standing position. The jet balances on those two plumes of air if necessary to land or take off in a tight spot. It can take off vertically or with a short runway like in this video. And of course it can also use a long runway and not open up the hood to use the turbo fan. Getting that Turbo Fan to work right was part of the problem with this Marine version of the F35 jet. The Air Force version of the F35 does not have the hood and the internal turbo jet fan to assist in it's take off and landings and thus requires a longer runway. The Navy Version has a beefed up landing gear system for landing on an regular aircraft carrier.
This Marine version is taking off form one of the smaller aircraft carriers. This aircraft carrier is not a Nimitz Class Air Craft Carrier. It's a newer smaller version for these vertical take off jets and attack helicopters etc.
During WWII we had a lot of air craft carriers but not all were the same size as the Yorktown, Wasp and other bigger WWII type aircraft carriers. They were smaller support type aircraft carriers. But we had a lot of smaller carriers during WWII. Especially near the end of the war in the South Pacific.
PS: once the jet is moving forward fast enough to get lift from the wings the hood is retracted so that the jet is more stream line and can go faster. And when they get ready to land again the hood's open up as the jet slows down and loses lift on the wings. That's when the turbofan and the rear nozzle (turn downwards IE VECTORED) take over and create the lift necessary to hold the jet in the air. It's a very complicated system that has failed a few times in the past. Which is why this plane is over budget and several years behind the planed schedule for deployment.

Much of that plane is obsolete already. The next air defense fighters will probably be unmanned. The cost over runoff this aircraft was enourmas. Why do us humans spend so much money trying to kill each other?

But to waste so much money on buying these sticks is what gets me. This is why the military got buy with paying $800 for hammers. The amount of money wasted by the Military is staggering. Think of all the military equipment that was left in Iraq when we moved out. They said it would cost more to bring it back home which is BS.
I would not say that the F35 is obsolete as the pilot training can make the difference in how well one of these planes is flown. But it kills me that our potential enemies already have copies of this jet in service. I get hacked by the someone in China all the time. I use to see all the attempts to get into my computer on my old firewall. Most of them were coming from overseas. I have a relative who was working with the USN Boomers and I think that is why they were trying to gain access to my computer. They are constantly trying to steal information from us.

you're a **** fool if you actually think the Russians or Chinese have anything that can compete.
Their radars are no good, their engines are questionable, and the plans the Chinese stole are years old.
NA......I will take our tech over theirs.....any day.
I find it AMAZING that liberals have no problem giving money to illegals, and extending SNAP and EBT so they can buy lobster and seafood, and STEAK, and then BITCH about military spending on equipment that actually PROTECTS their sorry asses so they can spout the **** they believe.
Man, the hypocrisy is STAGGERING.......
Simply STAGGERING.
I post a video of a pretty cool airplane, thinking the post is idiot proof......I guess not.
Later,
Geo

ha ha Geo everyone can't be as smart as you, lighten up on your brothers a little.
This thread made me think of a few things......When I was in the Army we trained on identifying soviet tanks and we were given stats all the time about their numbers and their newest greatest tank. Of course they have the numbers but we had the bad to the bone technology and equipment. So numbers were just stats that meant zero in real life. A fully loaded M1 with night vision and all the technology could run 45 mph across fields and bumps and decimate enemy tanks left and right. I'm telling you that is one awesome tank and it's even better now. It would blow your mind at how easy it is to handle. I think we proved that over in the sand pits of Iraq.
One morning while stationed at Fort Hood Texas we get the call to go to Germany on a 30 day training mission so we load up and go. Once we get to the destination we have warehouses full of M1 Tanks ready for battle. We get things in order and start playing war games against the British and their latest tank. Sooooo we start playing and after a few battles we were told to let them win because they needed the training. You see all the tanks had a M. I. L. E. S. System on them...Laser receivers wrapped around the tanks that when hit by a firing laser from an enemy tank would disable the tank and squeal throughout the headsets. Since we were zipping around these slow tanks and firing they had zero chance of training becaus they were disabled. It was pretty funny. We would be told which town and coordinates to be at and since we would get their first we would wait and ambush the Brits! They hated us. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA anyway my point is like George said we hear about others having this and that but I will always bet on the good old USA. Best soldiers, best equipment, best training and a desire to be the best.
