I don't fish pool 3 much but have caught some decent cats and sometimes I hear you can get some great smallmouth especially around Elkhorn creek. If you are able I would recommend you fish pool 1 or 2. They seem to be the best on the Ky. river. I don't know what you fish for but I usually catch good fish in both of them. I have caught several blue cats between 40 and 50 lbs and have heard of ones bigger than that. Below the dams in Carrolton and Lockport I have caught large and smallmouth up to 5lbs. you can usually get into good Hybrid stripers and occasionally real stripers at times. I hope this helps.
Thanks KRB. I'll probably go Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. I've always wanted to fish those pools. 3 & 4 are more convenient for me to get to. I don't fish for cats but all the others sound good. Anymore just about, I just like being on the water and if a fish tugs at my line that's good too. Thanks again
We had luck on a different pool/7 a week ago on buzz bait and spook. We fished chunk rock banks along with stickup/laydowns. Leaves were a problem sometimes. May have to try a plastic swim or fluke like baits when the leaves get heavy. Caught a smallie, blacks and Kys.
Here are a couple of links about the pools by KY fish & Wildlife

I moved to Ky. in 2002/03 , and a few years later , I friended some guys who took me to #4. We were able to park at the Seafood restaurant, in Frankfort, and walk down a pig trail to the water. It was close to the dam, and the fishing was awesome! We caught lots of sauger, hybrids, white bass, lots of different fish. Fast forward to a few years ago, they blocked off our access o this area. :( So I haven't been since, I hope that this helps.
Thanks Sweett. I've seen a many a people fish there when I'm eating at Jim's Seafood or in my boat up extremely close to the dam, when the current safely allows for it. I'm sure you would believe all the Shad and all the other minnows that hang around those rocks right below the dam. Great place for these fish to get a meal and plenty of 02 in the water. I'm really familiar with pools 3 & 4 since I lived and grew up in the area and live only a county away now. I reckon next year I will find a ramp to pool 2 or lock thru and introduce myself there. Quick question for those that have been on the Ky river in pool 3. Have you seen the skeleton of a really old boat sticking up out of the water on the left side of river going downstream in the area of steamboat holler? If you have, did you notice the type of nails that was used?
Id like to get below lock#4 and fish but does anyone know if your allowed bank access down there? Just want to know if anyone has any knowledge of that matter. I know years ago people were allowed to go but wasnt sure as things tend to change

KyKingfisher, people still somehow get down below the dam by Jims Seafood. How I don't know but every time I've been on the river in the past couple of months I have seen them fishing from there. On the other bank below the dam on the lock side, I have seen people fishing there as well. To get there you have to go thru Bellpoint and go past the lock buildings and the animal shelter. Just pass the animal shelter on the right side is a small parking lot that people park in when they fish down there. I haven't seen any no trespassing signs or heard of people getting in trouble. They build fires there and camp. It's a sandy bank. There is a sunken barge down from there.
