Voice recognition Software

Thought I might pass this along because it is really making things easier for me.

I have tried Microsoft voice recognition unsuccessfully a few times in the past. It always seemed pretty good in the beginning but then it was obvious that it wasn't going to pan out. For anybody that doesn't know what voice recognition is it's when you talk and what you say prints out on the screen. Now for those that have been around for a while it's probably obvious that my posts contain more than my fair share of spelling and other errors.

Well I tried this new voice recognition software on the suggestion of a friend - Dragon natural speaking premium and it is awesome. I'm using it right now. I am pretty much using it to type everything at work. I even use it to change file names and fill in fields and databases etc. I'm sure it's not for everybody but if you hate typing this thing is such a breeze.

The downside is the software cost 120 bucks and the microphone I bought at Best Buy was 120 bucks. But that's not much to be able to type effortlessly and send emails to people at work.

I'm going to attach a picture of the microphone I bought sort of by accident. I tried a $19 microphone from Best Buy's that didn't work at all. When I took it back the clerk did find another one but it was huge and kind of ridiculous looking. But it turns out it works really good and it was one of the few Desktop microphones actually recommended by the software. What I like about it is you don't have to hold anything in your hand or put a headset with a microphone on your head. This one is just always there ready to use.

Thought I would might mention this to you all in case there is somebody out there that really hates to type.

I've been looking at that software on the store shelves for a long time. (Years now). I never pulled the trigger. I type pretty good and enjoy typing on the keyboard. I learned to type on the old 1960's type writers and love the fact that with a computer you can correct mistakes so much easier. I use to have to get some white out and erase my mistakes and have to put the paper back into the type writer and position is just right in order to type in the new letter over the dried white out spot. Pain in the you know what. Now I just hit the back space key and retype. Or I use speckie to correct spelling errors after I type my messages.

As for the microphones. The noise canceling type work best. And I've been using the headset with boom mic for years now. I use to play a lot of Massive Multilayer Games and we formed squads and used Voice Over Internet Programs to talk to each other while playing the game or having online meetings. I found out back then that a good quality microphone and a fast internet connect was key to being able to play the game and use the Voice Coms at the same time.

If I was still working I'd invest in a voice recognition program. I've played around with them in the past but never really trusted them for the type of work I did. My field has way too many technical terms to try to describe to the voice program.
