Good choice

Last month I had my head almost shaved clean, I don't regret it. If I would have had hair, I'd have torn it out. I bought a fire stick from amazon, so that I could be commercial and political ad free.Hell began. In the past 3 days I have been on the phone[mostly on hold] for almost 11 hours. Cell phone minutes, tried but I don't have unlimited calling. Cordless phones 2 of them both with low battery alarms sounding. My ISP is american, so I was able to understand some of the goobledegook they were suggesting, and they tried, and couldn't connect me. They decided the device was defective, after about 25 password attempts, and suggested I call amazon,So I got out my swahili and indian and pakistani dictionarys and tried.At least 10 password attempts, failed, and amazon refered me back to my ISP, who after several more dozen attempts, said there was nothing they could do and told me get back to amazon. The third time we tried, I finally asked the techician to make a choice, either my phone didn't or my new TV didn't work, or my desk top was not working, OR maybe the firestick was defective, I asked him what he would do, the replacement will be here via over night express[free], and maybe I'll be on my way.If not I got a problem [several] we have low ceilings so hanging is not an option, I got rid of my hand guns two years ago,so thats out.Have an electric oven, so gas is out, Could drive into a bridge abutment, but then my insurance rates would sky rocket. Remember that nursery rhime, about sundays child? I am the poster boy for wednesday child is full of woe.

got my replacement device, and withn eager anticipation, tried to activate it. FAILURE!!!! Called my ISP put on hold for 20 minutes, tried several new passwords, and it was decided that my wifi modem isn't working. Replacement due saturday, the saga continues,So now I'm 4 days behind on my important tasks, and guess what, F it. gonna grab a water glass, fill it with jim beam honey flavored bourbon, and hope I survive the abuse I'm about to inflict on my type 2 diabetis.

I'm talking about tech service from my ISP, and tech service from third world nations. And automated phone systems where they put you in touch with a person who dosn't speak english. Even some of the "geeks" can't keep up with how fast things are changing.

Welcome to how it is in the world of technology today. Nothing against them, they are very smart to be able to speak 2 languages...sort of.

I work with Indians regularly, and trying to say their names is the hardest part. Once you get used to talking to them, checking into cheap hotels and buying gas is a lot easier though.

Worked a network problem with a guy last week who had 5 (five!) A's, 6 (six!) Y's and countless S's, H's, and N's in his last name. Literally 30+ characters long, and that was just the last name.

It's like whoever makes up names in India starts drinking and writes till he passes out.

They get through telephone screens, firewalls, and I'm afraid to look under my bed.Two days ago one called to ask about my car insurance, I told them I sold my car so that you couldn't bother me anymore. Yes, they use american names, and you can't understand them to begin with. Till the age of 5 I spoke mostly polish cause I lived with our grand parents. After my first year in germany I could actually buy other things besides, and get directions. That's almost gone now also. I'm too old to learn texting and tech rap.And rap music, is gibberish to my ears. I'm a vanishing species. I WAS AN ALTERBOY, AND AND KNEW ALL THE LATIN RESPONSES. tHEY ARE GOING BACK TO SOME OF THEM NOW.

I dread trying to talk to those tech's with the Indian Accents. I refuse to talk with them and ask to speak to their supervisor as soon as they get on the phone.

So I feel your pain guys.

The last time I talked with a Microsoft Tech, she was from the Philippines and spoke fluent English and was very enjoyable to talk with. But some of the guys that work for the tech companies are useless. I make them repeat words as much as I can just to piss them off. Maybe if we all did that they would all quite and American Companies would be forced to hire American's for those tech jobs again.

If I paid for a service with a credit card and it didn't work I'd just call my credit card company and cancel the payment. Just advising a quicker way to get your money back if the product's are junk.

The tech. sevice reps were english speaking. I re-installed the new modem, and the results were the same. The only difference was a new set of numbers to enter, that didn't work.She also said it was the device, and then I said " you can't help me can you ". I told her, and the survey that followed, that I would be exploring different ISP options monday.

Some of the BEST in my industry.

I have peers, subordinates, and bosses that are Indian, and the ones that are good, are FREAKIN crazy good .

In my department, we weed through a bunch of folks to get to the best of the best. This goes for Indian or American, or Chinese, or Russian, or whatever.

We have Onshore, Nearshore, and Offshore support, and all are equally capable of handling the most demanding problems.
