You can still catch them, but quality fish get harder to find. Some people fish the grass beds of Zilpo flats for them after the spawn. A lot of people start night fishing with lights for them too. I prefer fishing fallen trees, but the trick is to find how deep they are. Licking River section of the lake holds fish year round, but if you're unfamiliar with it, there are tons of stick ups to hit.
How is usually beginning of October? Been watching lots of YouTube from down there
My buddies have been hitting it now & again here lately. Fishing at night - spider rigging minnows/jigs/both - catching limits - catching a few quality sized fish, too. Some have been fishing the habitat put out by the KDFWR & some have been simply following the river channel edges. Most times the fish were between the 12-20ft depths.
Last COE temp chart was 9/10/19 ... showing water temps steady down to 20ft @ ~79deg & O2 levels good to around 20ft (NOTE: these values were taken at the dam & are 10days old)
As far as May ... depending on the Winter & Spring rains, you can find yourself fishing for pre-spawn, spawn, or post spawn fish well into the month. NOTE: Last year the lake was flooded from Feb to May.
