I think that Covid is still with out and waiting until we let our guard down again before the number of infected goes up. The main reason that Covid infections, hospital admissions and deaths have declined is due to vaccinations.

As for the news media coverage. They always go head over heals with a new topic until something better comes along that they can show case.
