Could we shoot down a Nuke Ballistic Missile?
My guess is YES. We shot down a whole lot of them in GW1. SCUDS are theatre missiles, but we shot some down.
Also, I believe IRON dome is based on a lot of our tech and Israel is quite successful with it.
Finally, we have THAAD batteries in quite a few strategic locations in America.
BUT.........Russia could easily deploy one of their suitcase nukes.
Man, scary thoughts.

Russia and China have hypersonic missiles

Russia developed hypersonic missiles that can fly below the radar and maneuver so they can't be shot down. Ballistic Missiles follow a predictable pathway and can be intercepted with missiles. Hypersonic missiles go much fast and can fly unpredictable pathways to the target.
China has tested hypersonic missiles in the past year.
Yes we can shoot down ballistic missiles if conditions are ideal. We have to have our interceptor missiles in the right place for them to shoot down a ballistic missile. But many ballistic missiles have multiple deployable war heads and we would have to take out the missile before these deploy. If not then we would need multiple missiles or war heards to take out their multiple warheads.
Back in the 1960's we had what was called Civil Defense. We stockpiled supplies in so called bomb shelters or basements of buildings. I was a firefighter for the local Civil defense agency and also an EMT. Now we call it Emergency Management Agency. We had giger counters that we could use to find radioactive substances.
Today I'm not aware of any US program like Civil Defense in our area. It may be there, but it's not publicized.
Now Russia may have been digging fallout shelters for their population over the past 50 years or so. I know that there are shelters for our leaders in Washington DC. One was a resort located up in the mountains, but we were outed by a reporter and 60 minutes did a store on that government shelter location. They spend millions if not billions on its construction. It had hospitals underground and everything needed to survive a nuclear attack for many days. The problem with all this is there is no way to really survive a nuclear war. You must come out eventually and radiation will be around for thousands of years. The ground and water will be contaminated. So, all we really must rely on is MAD.
If we have this space ability then why do we fear Putin
[QUOTE=GeoFisher;583245]I'm reading now that TRUMP was the only president in 15 years to even remotely give a ****.
OUR abilities to shoot down were totally reviewed in 2017 under Trump, and major changes were made..Imagine that.
YOU can thank him later.
Here is an excerpt, and I will link teh whole article below

The Trump Administration
In May 2017, pursuant to direction from President Donald Trump and Congress, then Defense Secretary James Mattis formally announced the beginning of the department’s Ballistic Missile Defense Review, which is taking a wide-ranging look at missile defense policy and strategy. The review was finally released in February 2019, one year after its original completion target.
Broadly, the review proposes to expand the role and scope of U.S. missile defenses by focusing not only on ballistic missiles, but also other types of missile threats, such as regional cruise and hypersonic missiles. It also proposes placing greater emphasis on the importance of space and new technologies to intercept missiles during their boost phase when they are traveling at their slowest. The review also calls for integrating offensive attack operations more closely with missile defenses and to supplement the defense of the U.S. homeland with the Aegis Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IIA interceptor.

Why do we still fear nuclear war when Putin threatens to use Nukes if anyone interferes with his war against Ukraine? either Joe is a pussy, or we don't have the ability to stop Putin's nuclear missiles, bombs, and torpedoes.
If I were President, we would already be in WWIII. So, it's a good thing that I don't have the power. But Biden does and he should use it before we lost Ukraine completely. Putin will not stop if he succeeds in taking Ukraine. We should strike while Russia is preoccupied with war in Ukraine. Putin is vulnerable right now as all his troops are engaged in Ukraine. He has committed 10% of his 200,000 army to the war inside Ukraine and has left the eastern flank open to attack by China. Now he may have an agreement with China so they won't attack, and he can pull Russian troops from the Chinese/Russia Boarder and send them to Ukraine. Who knows for sure?
