Verizon Cell Phone Coverage at Patoka Lake
Can anyone tell me how the Cell Phone Coverage is up at the various parts of Patoka Lake? I just got one of them Verizon Wireless Cell phones and want to use it up at Patoka Lake to keep in touch with my fishing buddy up there.
What about the entrance to the Newton Stewart Area's signal strength. Can you make calls when you are at the Store that I think use to be Tony's? I need to be able to call my friend to the gate at Wild-ridge RV Resort.
Anyone that uses Verision Cell phones at Patoka lake that wants to talk about the coverage is welcome to reply to this thread.
Thanks in advance!
My buddy is using Cingular Cell phones so he can't tell me about the Verizon Coverage but he told me on the phone tonight that he can't get a good signal on his Cingular Cell phone when he is inside is cabin up at Wild-ridge. SP? That's why I am concerned about the Coverage at Patoka Lake.

RE: Verizon Cell Phone Coverage at Patoka Lake
verizon is better than cingular i used to have cingular could not get out on the lake unless i went to the arear of open water between jackson and the beach got verizon and can get out just about anywhere on the lake might have to move a little but not much as far as the main entrance im not sure --hope this helps
RE: Verizon Cell Phone Coverage at Patoka Lake
Yes, that did help. Thank you. I went with a Verizon prepaid cell phone. I was able to connect with my fishing buddy up at Patoka Lake in his cabin at Wildridge today with my new cell phone. I called him from Evansville, IN and the connection as good.
He is using Cingular though? :( LOL. But most of the people that I know near me are with Verizon so I can call them for free each and every day at any time of the day. I can call my buddy after 9:01PM for free so that works.
My land mine phone has AT&T long distance and for some reason I can't call my buddy's cell phone from my land mine phone at home. But I can call his camp number. Both my land mine and his camp have the same area code. His cell phone area code is different.
I need to call AT&T long distance service Monday and figure out why I am not allowed to call a 502 area cell phone number with my home phone. The phone system sure is getting more and more complicated these days.
I have to jump though a lot of hooks trying to connect with a fishing buddy just to figure out where the fish are located. LOL
My buddy fishes Patoka a lot more than I do so he knows the lake better. I trust his lake knowledge more than mine at Patoka.
I envy the guys that live up by the lake that can fish it more often that most of us.

RE: Verizon Cell Phone Coverage at Patoka Lake
I took the Verizon Cell phone to patoka with me for the first time today. I got good reception sitting in my truck in the parking Lot at the Fisherman's campground. At the bottom of the hill going North into Birdeye I only got one bar and the reception didn't work until I got up the hill and into Birdseye itself. Then the reception was good again. I tested in one other time when on the lake in the Lick Fork Area about Midway between state highway 164 and the ****. Ie just south of the Marina and it got good reception. 3 bars on the screen.
yea I would love to buy one of them log cabins and move up there close to the lake. Only #14,500 for a 1/2 acre lot not counting the log cabin. Hopefully that include the electrical, gas and water to the lot. But that's probably a lot extra. Those Patoka Lake Cabins look nice to me~!

RE: Verizon Cell Phone Coverage at Patoka Lake
I have Verizon and lost service completely at the campgrounds. We drove back into West Baden where I picked up the signal again but when we got back to the campground still did not have very good reception. When I did talk to someone most of it cut out. I could get nothing on the water. Friends that went with us had cingular. They did not lose service like we did but still could not make a call out without it cutting out. Not very good for cell phone reception I don't think.
RE: Verizon Cell Phone Coverage at Patoka Lake
Thanks for the information. . I am trying to find the good and bad spots in the Verizon System, so that I know before hand what to expect. I am sure that the hills surrounding the Lake have a big effect on the reception.
Wish I knew exactly where the cell phone towers were. If you can see them then you can use them to best effect.
I was surprised that sitting in the Fisherman Campground's Launch Ramp parking lot that I got 3 out o 4 bars receptions. Maybe one of the Verizon cell towers in near that Launch ramp or to the West of the ramp. That would funnel the signals into that bay and right to the parking lot.

When I got to the campground I still had a signal but lost service, not just the signal, after I made a call. We drove back into West Baden and I picked up the service again about 5 miles from it. I did not lose service again when I went back to the campground but still did not have very good signal and no signal anywhere on the water. At least any of the times I checked it. We used to have cingular and it was the same way.

>Moose1am There is a Verizon tower on 164 and Dubois county rd 1025. You can see it from the Hoosier Hills marina.
RE: Verizon Cell Phone Coverage at Patoka Lake
Ah Alright. That explains the good signal. I was not that far from that tower then. I know where 164 crosses the lake but I am not sure where that county road is located. I suspect is not far from the South Lick Fork Boat ramp though. Must be just West of the ramp. I come in of I64 and go up 145 to 164 so I'll look along the East end of 164 to see if I can eyeball that cell phone tower. I am guessing it's back towards Celistine way but not very far down 164. But now I know it's around there somewhere.
I imagine that there are some dead spots around the lake no matter which service you have due to all the hills. But one can always motor around to get a better line of site to a tower somewhere up there.
