Who is the best Yamaha mechanic
I need a really good yamaha mechanic to look at my 2000 200hp vmax efi OX66
The local mechanic here can not figure it out and wants someone from yamaha to come look at it, but said it would be a month before yamaha could come.
The boat will loses RPMS while running, for instance I can be a 5200 rpms and then it will drop to 4800 on its own. if I let off the gas and then open it up again it returns to 5200, but then will drop again.
Thanks
Jason

RE: Who is the best Yamaha mechanic
I'm not sure where your from, but we have a few guys who are excellent on Yamaha. We're in Northern Kentucky, down South Jet A Marine has a good Yamaha guy. He helped us when we were down there for a TV Show.

This could be a tough one. If this is a warrantable failure, you may have to wait on the rep from yamaha. I have talked to three different friends of mine who own a yamaha, and from what they tell me they are very few techs that will work on yamaha, unless they are certified by yamaha. Most of your merc, johnson and evinrude techs will not touch one.I dont know where you live but my suggestion is to call tony reynolds at reynolds performance marine in shepherdsville,ky.(outside louisville) I am not sure if he works on yamaha or not but if he dosent he can probably tell you who you can take your boat to.This guy is sharp. I know guys that drive 4 1/2 to 5 hours to his place to get their engines worked on.telephone # 502-543-6774. good luck
RE: Who is the best Yamaha mechanic
I agree that Reynolds is a good one.
I can tell you two places NOT to take it to. For the sake not starting any trouble on the board, I won't mention their names in this post. If you want more info, send me an e-mail and I'll give you the details. My e-mail address is
A good friend of mine has a 225 yamaha that's been giving him problems for awhile. He's taken in to both of the places that I've mentioned. Each time he gets it back from them, it's cost him several hundred dollars, and it runs a little worse than it was before he took it to them.
