Dave Stewart
Hey Dave,
When I was talking with you yesterday, you mentioned you had some lower unit problems that turned out to be caused by the throttle. I was wandering what exactly was going on with it and how you fixed it. I have been through 5 lower units in the past two years and thought I might have the same prob. Is this something I can adjust myself or do I have to ask my mech. to do it.
Looking forward to next Friday.
Thanks
Chef Dave

RE: Dave Stewart
The problem I was having was that my gear shifter was basically worn out and had too much play in it...it was causing the fork that changes the gears from forward to nutreal to reverse to get stuck and thereby ripping out my lower unit gears. I had the shifter replaced and it cured the problem.

RE: Dave Stewart
Thanks Dave, I'll check it out, but I haven't noticed any play in the shifter. Anyway, when I bring it down next weekend, it'll be the first time back in the water since the new unit was installed, hopefully it will do ok. I did switch to a new prop, it's a four blade rather then the renegade three blade I had on it before. I figured I'd get a little better hole shot and don't mind the couple mph I'll loose. THe prop has been the only thing I haven't changed out throughout the whole ordeal. Maybe thats it. Anyway, the lower unit is under a 1 yr warrantee so I guess I have nothing to loose other than time on the water.
See ya soon
Dave
