RE: Hoosiers Looking to Fish
I've caught some really nice fish on Barkley in February. I like Barkley a little better in the winter because of the stained water. I believe it warms a little quicker.
The lakes at Barkley and KY only drop 5 feet to winter pool, and you do have to watch for underwater hazards. Stay in the main channels, and idle or run slowly out of the channel if you have any questions.
One thing to consider is that KY and Barkley both have floating docks that are still usable in the winter, while many of the other lakes drop so much that the courtesy docks are high and dry. Just something to think about.
Also, if you want overnight accomondations, there are plenty of great hotels down there, and in Eddyville, you can get a room for about $50. It's a pretty nice place, clean, phone, cable, etc. I'm sorry my mind has gone blank right now, they are located right across from the Eddyville outlet mall. Plenty of good eating places nearby too.
Let us know your decision, and how you do.
