I'm from the Philadelphia, PA area. Met Dave Stewart today at the Sportsman show here. He advised that Cumberland has some great Walleye fishing. Have been going to Canada but really would like to stay in the states. Can anyone give some insight into the lake and any available places to stay? Group will go twice a year - June and September. Group size is 5 to 10 guys.

I would not say Cumberland has great walleye fishing. If you look at the results from the PWC tournament held there, you'll find that even the pro's struggled. I might suggest you consider renting a houseboat. Great way to be right on the water all the time. I'd also suggest hiring a striper guide and giving that a try as well. Laurel Lake which is just east of cumberland also has a fair walleye population along with rainbow trout.

Lots of Walleye caught on Lake Cumberland.
L. Cumberland has good walleye fishing as far as KY walleye fishing goes. Compared to Canada, it doesn't come close. In the summer months, I can usually catch two or three a day on crawler rigs. Sometimes better.
Another KILLER Walleye lake is Dale Hollow! I know this for a fact but, is a preffered smalllake is why it's overlooked:)

Welcome to KY! I don't know if the sportsman show where you met Dave was in PA or not, but he is a great fisherman and a great bass guide. I loved fishing with him.
I have only ever caught one walleye here in KY. Granted, I fish almost exclusivly non-walleye water. However, the one I caught was at Green River Lake. I have caught some saug-eye on Barkley, however I was not targeting them.

well alot of you guys forget about the best spot. The Ohio river has some killer walleye and sauger fishing in this part of the country. The walleye have really come on strong here in the river. If anybody want to find out let me know and I`ll show them around and catch a few.

Are there any small lake walleye available in Ky? They are a mystery to me .Some of my homies (haha) go to Cumberland from time to time and have done pretty well on them .Regarding the Ohio River , has anybody ever caught any near Maysville ?
I've bought a place at Cumberland and have outfitted my boat with all of the goodies for striper fishing, I just don't know what I'm doing. Do you know where they are getting shad this time of year and how. Also How deep ? Are you down there often? I'm really wanting to get started with the Striper and Walleye. Lookin for a little help
Cumberland has plenty of walleyes, no trophy fish, Most of the fish caught will be in the 17 to 24 inch range and max out in the 7 pound range. June is the best time to catch them if the weather is hot with spinner rigs at the 20 foot depths, and a 10 fish limit would be very rare. Two to three times of year if they are hot and you are on the the spots. If you want to go pick a place around midlake so you you could fish up or down depending on lake conditions. If I did not know the lake and looked foward for a big fish then I would hunt on Dale hollow.
There was a 7.5 lb Walleye caught at Nolin a couple of weeks ago. Also the limit for Walleye is now 6 not 10.
Kippzak - Where is your place on Cumberland? I have a place in the Beaver Creek area, and will be down in 2 weeks (Feb 3 weekend). I know a little more than nothing, but do have occasional luck. If you are in our area, maybe we can hook up.
You should be able to get shad (alewives) by setting lights out at your nearest marina. It's hard to say exactly when they will come in during the night, but usually I have the best luck around 10pm, and then the hour just before dawn. No promises here, but that generally works for me. If no results, you may have to throw under your lights more often through the night. Also, try to set up your lights in empty slips so that two guys can stand on either side of the slip and drop and drag your net to a full expanse, covering the slip. Make sure that you have enough rope to get the net to the bottom. They tend to be deep.
Generally speaking, the fish are in the larger creeks, probably mid-creek. Start there, and look for bait/fish marks on your electronics. Fish with live bait. At dusk and dawn, cast large crankbaits or big jigs with curly tails on the points.
