RE: Kentucky lake March 8
I just started fishin Ky last year and did not fish it this early. I will say that Dave Stewart will start fishing and putting up his weekly fishing reports beginning in March. You may check them out to see what is happening. My buddy and I will be going out with him on March 17th hoping to catch some big pre-spawn Smallmouth or Bucketmouth.

RE: Kentucky lake March 8
I've been fishing Kentucky and Barkley for 20 years and this is very normal for this time of year. I wouldn't worry much about water temps. between 48 and 55. Only one thing to know, fish as slow as possible. Normally, in early March, temps range from 48 to low 50's. Keep in mind that you're getting surface temps. and due to water clearity being typically stained compared to Dale and Cumberland, temps. will vary greatly day to day. With this being a very mild winter, I would have a hard time believing that temps. are below 48. However, not being there I can't attest to that. Keep throwing those Jigs, suspenders, and slow rolling spinnerbaits, and you'll be fine.
RE: Kentucky lake March 8
Also, keep in mind that March 8, is two weeks away, and a little warm spell will bring those surface temps back to norm. Do Not Blow off a trip to Ky and Barkley for any reason ever!!!!!!Your best chance to catch a trophy bass in the state of Ky(IMO) is this time of year.
Good luck to you, keep us informed!

Ha Rick,
Don't never scrap a trip to Ky lake this time of the year. Lake Commache said in two weeks who knowes. Our clube will have it's first clube tourny the week before on the 4th and if all holds true I would say it would take 15# + to win. Again I'll have to agree with Commache stay with your suspending jirk, crank,& spinnerbaits and don't forget the jigs. Just some stats on the lake.

RE: Kentucky lake March 8
I wouldn't worry about the weather now as much as what it is doing closer to your trip. I have been pinned down since new year's and I am planning the week end of the 4th down there myself. As long as we don't have this really cold weather on top of our trips it can still be productive. I find sun-warmed banks to be very interesting in the afternoons in early march. Jerk baits, stop-and-go cranks, tubes, jigs are my staples.
