Tunnel near Burnside Marina
I've just noticed this old road tunnel cut through the point directly across the lake from Burnside Marina. There is a white house right on top of it. Maybe I just never noticed it before, but I was wondering if it is completely submerged when the lake's up to summer pool, what kind of fish it attracts and if it is fishable? Anyone know the story behind this thing? I would have beached the boat and walked through but the wind was unreal the day I noticed it a couple of weeks ago.
Cheers, Steve
RE: Tunnel near Burnside Marina
i was born and raised in burnside, it was the old railroad tunnel i beleave, the old town of burnside was under burnside marina, and streached past the cosway, past the old beach and went towards the new ramp. when the water is real low ,you can still see old foundations of buldings and houses. their is some caves on down towards the power plant on the power plant side. if you leave the new ramp,go left towards woodsendbend you will come up on cliffs on the left right across from woodsendbend boatdocks, that is the famly fram we still have goats that live on the cliffs, pretty cool to see them.oh ya the tunnel is under water most of the time. the hunter

I grew up in nearby Somerset and used to jump into the water from the high rocks in the cove on the other side of that tunnel when I was young. I don't know if it's true or not.........but I also used to hear that Jesse James once held up a train in that tunnel.
The tunnel has water in it most of the time if I remember correctly.
