KY Consevation Officers need YOUR help!!!!!
For those of you that live in KY, we need your help.
Currently, KY Conservation Officers are required to maintain State Peace Officer Certification, but are not included in the KLEFP, as KSP, KVE, County & City Police Officers and Deputy Sheriff's are.
This would be a $3000.00 a year raise for Officers, and to the Sportsmen and Boaters of the state, as it would not cost the KY Dept. of Fish & Wildlife anything.
As most of you know, the Dept does not recieve any outside funding, and is funded only by License Sales and Boat Registrations.
HB 376 was introduced a few weeks ago, and has been stuck in Committee ever since.

RE: KY Consevation Officers need YOUR help!!!!!
Where would that $3000.00 per warden come from?
RE: KY Consevation Officers need YOUR help!!!!!
First, to answer gettingonefishin, the 3100 dollars per year comes from an insurance fund that was started years ago as "incentive" for local agencies to be able to recruit suitable law enforcement and firefighter candidates and train them. Those eligible for this pay must complete a designated amount of continuing education per year. ( 40 hours for police and 100 hours for fire). I am a firefighter. Personally, I believe that you guys definitely deserve it, especially considering some that qualify for it. I had heard a week ago that the bill was gonna make it. What have you guys heard lately?

I wasn't aware that these officers went through the same academy requirements as the other law enforcement agencies. Do they? Just curious....

We are required to attend the same Academy as all other City & County Officers, and also required to attend annual inservice. The difference is just that they get the $ from the Dept. of Criminal Justice, and we do not.
This would not cost the Sportsmen of KY anything, since the $ would come out of a fund set up in the 70's from a surcharge in insurance.

Our Bill has been in the House Judiciary Committee since January 18th
with no action being taken. You are right, that is not a good sign.
There are now 76 different Bills waiting consideration before the
Judiciary Committee. With 17 more working days in the 2006 Session, the
Judiciary Committee as a rule meets for two hours once a week. They may
have only three or four more meetings to go. The Chairman (Rep. Gross
Lindsey) decides what Bills to place on the agenda (as all committee
chairmen do as well). Only about 50% of Bills filed are ever even
discussed, due to lack of time. Of the Bills picked for discussion,
only 10 to 12% are passed and become law. I do not know if HB 376 will
be picked for discussion, debate and voting or not, but the chances are
long at this point. I and the other co-sponsors will continue to work
toward that goal, however the sponsors and co-sponsors for the other 75
Bills seeking consideration are doing the same for their Bills. With
over 800 Bills filed during this Session (there is no limit on how many
Bills legislators can file) I admit there are many more Bills sent to
the different 12 committees than the committee chairmen could ever hope
to have time to discuss, debate and vote on. Thanks for your support on
this effort. An e-mail or phone call (800-372-7181 is the toll free
message line) to Chairman Lindsey is the best you can do.
Your servant in Frankfort,
Rep. C. B. Embry, Jr., R-Morgantown.
