Transducer Location
I'm in the process of getting a new boat and I'm going to put a new gps/sonar unit on it. I'm just wondering where is the best location to mount the transducer? Shoot-Thru-the hull or transom mount? It already has a sonar w/ a puck inside the hull area, so would I just remove it and put the new one there if I go that route? Thanks

RE: Transducer Location
I received a new sonar for my boat for Christmas. Just now getting around to mounting it. I was checking with the boat mechanic to see if he would mount it for me since I didn't want to drill a hole in my boat. He said it was crazy to mount on the outside. He said mount it in the bilge area and let it shoot through the hull. So I am going to do that - but I don't really know how either. But the mechanic said you loose performance when you mount it on the outside.

RE: Transducer Location
Just watched bass tech this weekend and that was the topic they went over. If your using a puck then you can place it in the back of the boat to the left or right of the motor do not put it directly in the middle, dont know why that was just what they said.. Make sure you sand both the bottom of the boat and use fine sand paper to sand the puck. Mid up you compound and put enough on it to have it ozzzzz out around the edges of the puck. They also showed monuting one of the sonar's on the outside of the boat but it wasn't the puck, it was the other one can't remember the name. It was a very interesting show and was a lot of help. Hope this help's looked very easy to install.
Hope this helps.

RE: Transducer Location
The one on the outside is called a skimmer. If you fish really shallow the skimmer is better but I agree with the performance if it is on the outside and not to mention it could get damaged easier on the outside.
