Striper fishing on Lake Cumberland
Fished Saturday morning and caught 2 in the morning. I have been skunked all winter stiper fishing. I caught these pulling boards with weightless lines. I have been bottom fishing and casting dollflys in the back of creeks without any luck. I haven't seen many posts about winter striper fishing. I thought with the water level being so low during Xmas that I would have a better chance to catch some fish; however, I was wrong. Has anybody been having any luck this winter?
RE: Striper fishing on Lake Cumberland
I had been having luck until the Saturday you got your two. On that day I couldn't buy a bite. The two weekends before that I did pretty well, also on free line or shallow light sinkers in the heads of the creeks. So far this year, size has been good too. Have had a number of fish between 15 and 22 lbs. Hopefully bodes well for a good spring.

Just a couple of questions. I've been skunked on stripers since I started fishing for them in October. I'm getting ready to head back out and could use any info you might have. So if you don't mine, how much line did you have out, how deep was the water, how far back in the creeks were you, and what was the water temp?

The water temp Sat at the dam was 51.8. At the mouths of the creeks on that end it was 52. Mid creek was 56. Found surface temp of one sundrenched, protected, shallow creek arm that was 59. Zero fish. Hope that helps.

I normally fish alot in January, but every chance I got to go there was too much wind. I never had any luck in those conditions and it is too difficult to fish in anyway.
RE: Striper fishing on Lake Cumberland
I started close to the banks and I caught a small striper 21" along the shore with the outside board. As I was pulling it in and releasing it, I started to drift more in the middle of the channel and caught 2 more in about 40' of water. I had about 12-18 feet of line out behind my boards. I caught the 2 directly behind the boat on a float. I was fishing in Caney Creek and was past where you launch your boat towards the head of the creek--before it gets shallow.
