I was thinking about going to Dale this week but I've never been except in the dead of winter. I've heard a jerkbait does well in the spring. Is it too early or could I get one to hit a jerkbait? I'd even settle for a chunk green fish!

Jerkbaits work very well this time of year! Tie on that spinnerbait as well! Hit the bluffs, rock ledges, and the gravel flats. get the jerkbait down and they are hitting it on the pause. I used a suspending rogue, another guy was using a normal rogue. Spinnerbait, toss across the ledge and roll it across, be ready!
Hope this helps!

I agree with the above but water is warming and I would bet that the smallmouth are in different stages. I would still try some winter time tactics (float-n-fly, jig, etc) if the hard jerk baits and spinners don't work well. I know some still having good luck on the fly. Somedays they seem intereted in jerkbaits and the next day they change so keep your options open and keep trying different lures until you find what works. Good luck.
I plan on taking a fnf rod too. I'd like to have one more good smallie day before the spring largemouth bite kicks in full swing.

Look for three guys in a gray all welded aluminum boat with a 115 Johnson on the back....we'll be yelling......FISH ONNNNN!!!!
Ease up to me from the main lake or opposite direction/side I'm fishing....chat me up and if we're stick'n some numbers I'll tell you what we're doing.

I'll be going Thursday so I can report back how I do.
Sweet man....I'll be at Barren Thursday afternoon and I'll check your report or you can call me 502.550.9926 (Mark). Hopefully you can tell temps and water clarity where you go. Also, I'd like to know how the FNF bite is for you.
Thanks Bro,
Mark
Sure! This will be my last trip to Dale probably. After that I'll live on Barren every week!
I'll be fishing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. What area of the lake is best right now? Up or down? I haven't been yet this year, but i would assume that the area above the mouth of the Wolf River up to around Jolly Creek is best. Or is it better down the lake?
Fished all day. From up wolf river to mitchell creek. One 2lbs smallmouth and a bluegill. I guess I just don't know how to catch em' after warm weather hits. :-(
