RE: New World Record Bass
Ahh hatchery trout...the Barry Bonds supplement of bass. It's hard to believe that sows that big can come out of such tiny water, yet there they are. Too bad they couldn't have had it weighed on a certified scale:( I doubt that it will be recognized as the official record. Hopefully the beast was able to survive allright and will be able to reproduce. I give the guy all the credit in the world for releasing the fish because there is no way in Hell I could have!
RE: New World Record Bass
It's strange how there's always some glitch or technicality everytime one of these California Bass are caught that claim the new record.
It's obvious from the story that these guys are out targeting the world record so I wonder why they didn't know the rule about foul hooking and go ahead and have it weighed on a certified scale. In my opinion, if it only had one of those two conditions - either just foul hooked but weighed properly or not foul hooked and weighed on the hand held scale - then it would probably be certified. As they have both of those conditions, I have my doubts that it will.
RE: New World Record Bass
I would say they do know the IGFA rules these guys are like the Crupis and are big bass hunters, the third man in the boat(Jed Dickerson) caught and released a 21-11 in 03.I think between the 3 of them they have 3 of the top 25 heaviest bass recorded.
From the markings on the fish they think this is the third time this particular fish has been caught,it weighed 20 lbs in 01. The fish nosed down on a jig and they thought she had it (because of the size they lost sight of it) hence the foul hook.
Even without the IGFA's approval I would call this a world record, the Perry record reminds me of a ufo sighting:-)
