RE: Elkhorn vs. Stoner ???
Totally different beasts. Stoner is only wadable way down stream where it joins Hinkston to form the South Fork of the Licking. And that acess is limited.
Elkhorn becomes more of a mountainous stream the closer it dives toward the river.

RE: Elkhorn vs. Stoner ???
Billy,
Which is the better fishing these days?
Thanks,
SAM
RE: Elkhorn vs. Stoner ???
I would believe that Elkhorn is probably the more consistant producer of the 2. I've fished Stoner for years, one day they're on fire the next you can't buy a bite. Elkhorn has the added smallmouth factor. I would say that Elkhorn is the better of the 2 but I fish Stoner because it's closer and more accessable for bigger boats.
Stoner.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-28-06 AT 06:39PM (EST)[p]Mr. Billy is right definitely fish Elkhorn creek. There are no fish in Stoner,I repeat everyone stop going to Stoner and never come back its a waste of time. The same applies to Wilgreen Lake it is barren, stay home or go to Taylorsville, but stop fishing at Wilgreen.
RE: Elkhorn vs. Stoner ???
Maybe I shouldn't let the cat out of the bag , but for those of you who don't know, Stoner HAS smallmouth , but they're not in all stretches .There are some GOOD smallmouth in upper and lower Stoner(above and below the dam in Paris) if you can get to them .Due to landowner constraints , some of the water is hard to access . RedneckShadrap is absolutely correct in saying they are very different beasts ,but both impressive in their own right .

LAST EDITED ON Mar-28-06 AT 07:33PM (EST)[p] If you throwing the longrod Elkhorn would probably suit you better. I'll be down there next weekend somewhere as of right now. If you'd like come on down to Stillwaters campground early Sat morning and look us up. I drive an ole Chevy PU with a rusted hood.
If you have a jon boat or bigger boat Stoner would be better in that case.
Yes I've caught my share of smallmouth on Stoner. Most of them have come on the F-n-F///

RE: Elkhorn vs. Stoner ???
Thanks Billy.
By the way, none of you guys have to worry about me hurting the fishing too much regardless of which creek I would happen to fish. #1, I'm not that great a fisherman, and #2, I would not consider keeping any bass (LM or SM) from anywhere. Especially a creek.
Thanks again.
