My Report: for the RECORD
LAST EDITED ON Mar-30-06 AT 06:46AM (EST)[p]I received a couple of nasty emails earlier this week from some folks that cancelled their trips to Ky/Barkley this past weekend based on my report of a poor bass bite that I put up last Thurday night. They basically were getting on my case because they read some other reports written by other folks a day or two after my report that the bite was very good.
So for the record, here is how I get the information for my report:
My report on bass is composed of what I am doing in my boat personally and what information I receive from a network of local anglers (many of them professional types) that have been on the lake this week...I also get reports from folks that are my clients from time to time when they are down here fishing.
I glean out this information and try to make the most accurate and honest report I can put out.
Here is my take on my last report:
Yes there was a 27 pound bag weighed in a tournament the day after my report was written. I do not base my report on a one day catch of fish by a single boat. If you had checked you have seen that the next day that same boat only weighed in 11lbs.
On Saturday there was a Walmart BFL tournament on Ky Lake....I would suggest you take a look at the overall results of the catch that day. Yes, there was a nice 19lb bag of fish weighed that won the tournament. But, take a look at the overall results of the tournament and count the number of zero's and one or two fish bags weighed. Take a look at the names of the folks that had zero's or one fish bags...you might remember seeing those names in a lot of fishing magazines as they are well known professional bass anglers. If after looking at those results you still think my report was that far off then I would suggest you quit reading my report and read only those reports that fit the scenario that you WANT to hear.
Anyway, just so that you understand me....I spend a lot of time putting together the information for my report...I don't candy coat anything...when I make a forecast for the coming bite it is a forecast based on my experience with the prevailing conditions and the forecasted conditions (weather, water levels etc..).
Sorry folks, had to vent a little here.
By the way for you folks that emailed me...I will be writing a new report tonight...and it will reflect just like I said in my report last week....when the water starts warming back up the bite will come back..the weather started warming back up here on Tuesday...the water temps started coming back up yesterday...and the fish turned on again.
RE: My Report: for the RECORD
Thanks for the report Dave.
RE: My Report: for the RECORD
Your reports are awesome as well as your fishing knowledge on KY/Barkley. Don't let a few ding dongs who don't understand fishing ruin your day and keep up the great work. There are a bunch of us out here who are your fans because you are so unselfish with information.

RE: My Report: for the RECORD
Keep up the good work Dave, any knowledge you share with us is always appreciated...Thanks!
RE: My Report: for the RECORD
Thanks Dave for keeping it real (honest). Although...that means less competition today for us 8^)
RE: My Report: for the RECORD
Don't let them get to you Dave. You do a great job. If these so called fisherman base their fishing trips solely on a fishing report on line they aren't much of a fisherman. Sounds like some serious fair weather fisherman. And yes, I hope the ones that sent you the e-mails read these posts. And in Dave's defense the fishing was very tough and I knew it was going to be but that didn't stop me from going out Fri, Sat. and Sun.
RE: My Report: for the RECORD
Hey Dave don't let them get to you! I look forward to your reports and look at them as a starting point. I don't get to the big waters as much as I would like and your reports give me a few ideas before I launch. They would ALL be worse off with out them. I have been out with Dave and he shares any and all info he has, Keep up the GREAT reports Dave!

RE: My Report: for the RECORD
Dave,,,
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.....
Sound like they wanted someone to blame thier inability to catch fish on.
Keep the good reports coming..

RE: My Report: for the RECORD
Hey Dave, after dealing with the general public for 40 years I feel you came out good. The type that b%$ch the most aren't worth the trouble and anyone who would listen and agree with them aren't either. Keep up the great reports, looking to set a date for those nightime smallmouth....Stratosjoe
RE: My Report: for the RECORD
I have used guides a while back and they were not as honest as you with their reports. They wanted the almighty dollar. After a day of fishing and no fish the guide says dont know what happened they were hitting good yesterday, then ya talk to some people and find out no fish been caught for a week.
So my hat is off to you Dave for your honest reports. Guides not only catch ya fish but they teach ya so much about that body of water which is well worth the fee paid. We all love to catch fish but some days ya just dont.
My friend wants to go Saturday night but the wind is supposedly going to be coming dead out of the North by 10 PM so I doubt even gettin bit. But if he wants to go I will go with him cos that may be the only chance he gets this weekend to go.
So once again thanks for your honesty. Keep up the good catch's.
