Herrington Whites
I fished the Dix yesterday and was amazed to learn the whites and hybrids had not make their way up into the headwaters by this time. My fishing friend and I caught five eight inch whites and no hybrids all day long. Usually, when the redbuds are blooming you at least catch lost of small whites. I noticed the gar were not moving too. There were some carp but not like in years past. I have fished the Dix every year for the last 50 years and have always caught at least a number of small and a few good whites each year. I am debating whether they are late or have already made their run. KU has been drawning down the lake so I don't know if that has affeced them or not. We also did not graph many larger fish at all, and we went all the way down to the "hog's back." We caught 3 small whites up in Clarks Run but that was it. The surface temperature was between 68 to 73 degrees. The lake at Bryants was slightly muddy but cleared before you got to Rankin'Bottom. I would appreciate any comments. Thanks!

RE: Herrington Whites
I fished another lake headwaters this morning and the water was very clear and low. The fish were active for just a brief period around daylight. I think in clear, low water that is the pattern. The sun being out when the water is clear really shuts them down.

RE: Herrington Whites
I dont know but I think that stained water is messing em up for some reason. Last week the water was stained from the new ramp up in dix just above the waterfall to Cooks point. I found clear water at cooks and started trolling down lake on the right side of the lake and all of a sudden the fish finder lit up. About the time the shad rap I was trolling got there I had a fish on. I threw out a marker bouy and started casting that area with a #5 SR Shad Rap and caught over 40 whites and hybrids with a cpl in the 8 lb range. Brought 15 of the smallest home and they ate real good. Good Luck.

We put in at herrington marina yesterday and went down the lake. Didn't do much early, but caught a 5.7 and 7.8 hyrbrid close to dark. They're just getting goin, it will only get better for the next few weeks.

Thanks for the replies. It is good to hear the hybrids are just starting to get active.

RE: Herrington Whites
I really wonder if the whites are going to make much of a run this year on Herrington.

RE: Herrington Whites
Who knows, maybe the whites won't make much of a run this year...I realize this is a Herrington thread, but anyway's the guy that lives in back of me says he went to Nolin River fishing for whites about two weks ago and he did "ok", simply ok is what he said...then he went back one week later and when he did, he encountered a couple of other guys fishing in the same vicinity. They told him they hadn't had a bite, long story made short he came home with zero after his second trip. According to him that's it for the year as far as Nolin River is concerned...Fishgurl may be on to something as far as the whites not making much of a run this year on Herrington/Dix...
