Hey buzz I was down there last Thursday a week ago and caught some good fish. However, they were lots of fish in the back of the short creeks pairing up just laying on top of the water. I didnt mess with em since we were catching fish normally. So i would say by now the bucks are cleaning a nest, which makes the sowls wanting to eat. We saw 1 sowl that was so big she couldnt even lay flat in the water, tail was hanging down. I estimated maybe 9 to 10 lb LM. She was pretty but we left her alone. Good Luck tomorrow and let us know.
10 lb in cedar creek?? what did she do... swallow a 5 lb weight??
no way
I hit Cedar Creek for the first time this year in my kayak for 2 hours on Sunday. I caught a few small bluegill and 39 small crappie (not even close to keeper size). It was pretty quick action.

That article isn't written very accurately. I have that issue of Field and Stream and Cedar Creek is NOT ranked 30 out of the top 35 bass lakes in the country.
First of all, the article doesn't say those are the top 35 lakes. It says something to the effect that these are 35 of the hottest lakes in the country.
Secondly, the 35 lakes are not ranked in order. They are just numbered. For example, they have the list divided in sections so the 7 or so lakes in the West or Southwest are 1-7. Cedar Creek is in the Southeast and those lakes are ranked something like 21-30.
It's a great accolade for this lake, but the author of this article in the Advocate-Messenger either needs to learn to read a little more closely or he is exaggerating on purpose.
i fish cedar on occasions and i was down there last weekend and a guy in another boat was talking too me and asked what i thought of the lake and i answered, and he said the guy at the shop, dont know which one,but told him its the #1 lake in ky ,we both had a good laugh
i havent fished it yet but i heard it is really getting fished hard just like barren river.
OK guys, went fishing Sunday Afternoon for about 4 hours
Fished several "good" places. Tried channel side, deep (12ft) to shallow.
Threw several lures , white spinnerbait, tube, crawdad crankbait, jerk bait, suspended bait --rapala husky jerk, and a brush hawg. Seemed everybody I talked to were catching plenty...just small.
Sure could use a little help on what I was doing wrong. Main lake or way back up in the coves. Do I need to "dig" my way back into the bank or fish around the cedars, 10 ft out from the bank.
Fish are SHALLOW this time of year for the most part. They were on shallow flats or up close to the banks on deepers banks (literally their tails and fins were out of the water sometimes). I caught some good ones last week and could watch them hit the jig. Lots of fun but 0 keepers on that trip.
