Major Fish Kill? Barren River?
Has anyone been fishing above Walnut Creek, large number of dead fish, hybrids, bass, etc.. past the 31 Bridge.
Can anyone verify this?
Reports are that there is too much run off of fertilizer etc from area farms. Anyone got any feedback.

RE: Major Fish Kill? Barren River?
I've not noticed it,of course i may have been preoccupied fighting 6lbers.Head up river Sat.,thats just a rumor, fish are dead but no more than usual.
Above Walnut creek i'd say about 75%(guess!)have spawned and are moving to summer patterns.Had some good fish past week,75% had dropped, just my observation.
If it's true, maybe then.......
Maybe we need to move the little fish off somewhere else? The oldman can surely adjust!!!!
LOL... Fraswa... I'm in your head now... you know it to be so.
Your saving grace may be the fact that my elbow was hurting too baddly to sleep this morning, so I am up wearing my brace again. If I can't hold a rod by Saturday, you may just be in luck. LOL

I think it's supposed to be cool and windy, so I don't think I'm gonna travel to my best places, don't think I'll need to.

I would suspect that it may also be pesticide runoffs. While the Fertilizer runoff can help get too much algae growing. The Algae would have to die off and become food for oxygen consuming bacteria that would lower the water's Dissolved Oxygen levels. Low DO levels can kill fish.
But a pesticide runoff will kill the fish directly.
Sounds like someone may have had a leak in a big tank or dumped something into the water shed to cause a big fish kill.
This time of the year the farmers may be applying pre emergent pesticides to help their crops get a good start against weeds.

RE: Major Fish Kill? Barren River?
There was several dead fish floating around the narrows area Thursday. I have been on the water off and on all spring, and have noticed earlier that the main lake really looked like it turned over just like in the fall. Three weeks ago, I was seeing a lot of dead shad around the narrows area. It had that dark coffee look. The bite for me in this area just died. I went up in the creeks and had better luck. Also the ph of the water has really changed and dropped hard around the main lake which also would lead one to believe the lake may have had a spring turnover.
New Rule Proposition.....
with there being a possible fish kill, I think we need a rule prohibiting the weighing of dead fish. Heck, I might be tempted to grab one of those floaters to weigh!!
Ha ha....
Franswa... I'm about 75%, I think. I'm going to grab a rod today.... see if I can hold it and make a cast or two. Now don't you go after those floaters too.
See you all tomorrow.
