RE: Yamaha V-Max concerns?
I have a 2000 200 vmax
Make sure you run ringfree through it. Otherwise you may have O2 Sensor problems like I am possibly having now. My motor will be running fine and then the RPMS will drop, but then it will run fine again. I found an article online about running ringfree to keep carbon from building up in the motor. I took my O2 sensor out a couple of days ago and it was caked with carbon. Other than that I have not had any out of the ordianry issues.
RE: Yamaha V-Max concerns?
I had a 99, like mentioned run ring free every tank. It was the most trouble free outboard I've ever ran.

Yea, what Mr. V-Maxx said, ditto.
RE: Yamaha V-Max concerns?
Thanks allot guys for your info!
so what is ring free and where can i get it? I have never heard of it. Is the carbon buildup the only issues with the yamaha?
RE: Yamaha V-Max concerns?
I'd like to know what this ringfree is. Is it like Sea-Foam? I've used Sea-Foam with great results. Where can you get ringfree?

Ring free additive can be purchased at any dealer who sells Yammy's. It adds directly to your gas tank when you buy gas and keeps the engine from building up carbon deposits. Follow the bottles instructions, it's goooooood stuff.
RE: Yamaha V-Max concerns?
sounds like you need to check the electric fuel pump screen it will get clogged up and cause what your motor is doing.

Even the local Evinrude/Merc dealer sells Ring Free here. About 9.95 per bottle. You can still get the OMC/Bombardier equivalent called Carbon Guard, but it's a few bucks more and takes about 3 times as much for the same amount of gas. I use it in my Ficht engine.
RE: Yamaha V-Max concerns?
I do not claim to be a mechanic, is that very hard to do?
