FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pine Bluff, Arkansas Selected for College Bass Fishing’s Biggest Tournament Arkansas River City Has Storied Bass Fishing History
Rick Clunn, the man recently voted “Greatest Bass Angler of All Time,” became a legend in Pine Bluff, Arkansas more than two decades ago, when he blew away the competition and shared his victory on stage with then Vice President George H. Bush and Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton.
This August college bass anglers from across the country will look to make their own history when they compete in the second annual College Smash-Mouth Bass Fishing Championship on the Arkansas River in Pine Bluff August 26-29. “The city of Pine Bluff is excited that College Smash-Mouth Bass is coming to our area which was known as the Bass Capital of the World in the mid 1980's,” says Pine Bluff Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Director Greg Gustek. “With two back to back Bassmaster Classics, Pine Bluff was put on the map as a tournament fishery and is still thriving today.”
Thirty five colleges and universities are participating in sanctioned College Smash-Mouth events and are scheduled to compete in the event. After qualifying events at each school the top two anglers with the most qualifying points move on to the Smash-Mouth finale. In Pine Bluff those student anglers will work as a team, representing their school in college bass fishing’s national championship.
Defending champion, Stephen F. Austin will return two new anglers in an effort to repeat. Schools like Oregon, Iowa, Alabama, Kentucky and Texas Tech will look to capture their first Smash-Mouth Championship and bring bass fishing glory back to campus this fall. During the event all student anglers will be a part of festivities surrounding the CITGO Bassmaster Legends event that will be held that same weekend in nearby Little Rock, Arkansas. The College Smash-Mouth Bass Championship is the largest college bass fishing event in the world and will be televised to more than 90 million households on ESPN2 and ESPNU in September.

RE: College Smash-Mouth Bass Official Press Release
Real busy at work I see...haha! Where did you find that press release? Have they sent you info. on how to sign up, register, all the things we need to know? I thought it was during different dates then the press release says, like 8/23-26. And the only thing difficult about c-riggin' is like Gerald Swindle said, " The toughest thing about carolina riggin' is stayin awake." But I am gettin the feel for it, actually liking it quite well. Man I caught a good one Sat. on 3/4 jig on a ledge, but dude we need to get out there and you show me some secrets of this. I am getting my butt wooped too much during the dog days of summer!
RE: College Smash-Mouth Bass Official Press Release
Yeah, I'm caught up for once here at work today! How cool is that?! Gotta love this engineering work! Anyhow, I forwarded you the email with what they sent me. I'm working with them and trying to get our expenses estimated!
Yep, you are definitely getting whooped now that summer is here! That Carolina Rig got me a check in Saturday's BFL tournament out of Kenlake. If you're falling asleep while carolina rigging, you're definitely not in the game like you should be! It's exciting if you know what you're doing!!! We'll get out on the water soon and I'll enlighten you on the technique. :)

You goin home this weekend? I know I will be down at Nolin next weekend, learning myself and fun fishing. Tell you what this month has been a ball breaker, 5 tourneys on Barren in 4 weekends...wears you down even at the age of 21...now I see why your always c-riggin' lol, old man technique
RE: College Smash-Mouth Bass Official Press Release
Old man technique?!?! What the heck?! Peter T would definitely have something to say about that!
I'll be on my pontoon this weekend for four days of relaxing and checking out the girls in the Rock Quarry on Ky Lake! Beer, bikinis, and boats; what more could you ask for?!! Might even do a little night riding if the weather is good! I love night riding and the Outlaw Hours on 93.3 WKYQ !!!
RE: College Smash-Mouth Bass Official Press Release
Bikini checkin? I thought you was married by now...remember the shades, they'll keep you out of trouble as long as no neck breakin is involved. When you gonna bring this girl around, i think she is just imaginary! Anyway we need to get a group of us to go up to 4th street for the concerts, I'm down anytime now that moving is over and the brunt of fishing. Gonna break in the house for some g-tar playin and such so I'll let you know when that is up.
RE: College Smash-Mouth Bass Official Press Release
Dude, marriage is not an option right now! Gotta live it up while I can! Ha ha ha!!! I've got too many bass tournaments to win and seasons on the trail before I can even think of that stuff!
GIT R DONE !!!
RE: College Smash-Mouth Bass Official Press Release
If you all are going to Pine Bluff---lock up your stuff. The town ain't too pretty. Fishing is decent there and you don't even have to run far from the ramp either. The area that the ramp is at is about a lake in itself without even running to the river. Go far south and lock down twice and you will find some unbelievable great looking bass waters. Lily pads, timber, grass, etc. etc. Can't remember what they call that area, but it's awesome. I have not been there since 1997---fished a BFL(then Redman)Wildcard there. Lot of fun to fish in a 400 boat tourney for 3 days. Good luck guys.

The Dumas Pool area is what I was thinking about. Just so if you get a map to look at, you'll know the area I was talking about. The main Arkansas River had these rocky outcroppings called "wingdams"! Be careful approaching them because of shallow water depths and current which can be a real danger. But they do hold bass. Also pay particular attention to river levels, current and watch for water generation schedules. When the dams are releasing and there is a little more current, the Spots are a little easier to catch and they have some BIGGUN's there. One other area, was fishing deeper around the main river bridge pilings---kind of like KVD did in Pittsburgh. If you slowed rolled a spinnerbait, you could catch some good spots. Just a few other things I remembered to help you all out.
RE: College Smash-Mouth Bass Official Press Release
I don’t know what your talking about down at Barren first was a rig and a jig so was 2nd but third came off a D-20 and a DD-22. Talk about staying awake try the feeling of appendicitis, setting the hook in your side so much and gotta love the feeling of your arms after a eight hour excursion of deep chuckin and winding... gotta love it.
RE: College Smash-Mouth Bass Official Press Release
RC5 -> I don't think Eric has a clue what you're talking about! Ha ha ha!!!
I tried the DD-22 bite with little success....I was already wore out from it the day before down on Ky Lake! 8 hrs. of that really builds up your forearm though! Heck, you can't stop me though! I GIT R DONE !!!!
That rig and jig you speak of, is that where you use a jig rather than an egg weight and then tie your leader directly to the jig eye? Or do you still use a swivel and let the jig slide freely like an egg weight? I've heard several talk of this technique, but I haven't had time to get some confidence in it or learn the technique to use it. Any help would be appreciated!
