RE: Tribute to Billy........
I will have to say that he was one of the nicest fisherman that I have ever known. He was a great guy.I got to know him from boat shows that he worked in my area.I still have alot of lures that he gave me.I definitly lost a good friend and the world lost a great fisherman the day Billy left us.......
RE: Tribute to Billy........
Billy was a good friend and loved fishing like I do. I still have his "Them Ol'Brownfish" book that he signed for me over 15 years ago. It is good reading and tales of the times gone past at Dale.
I know Billy would be proud today of the way things have turned around. I've caught more 5's and 6's and a few 7's in the past 5 years and it's only gettin' better:) I lost one in November that I know would go 8 or better. Hopefully this spring we'll get to hook up again and maybe be able to touch her:)
God grant that I may live until my dying day
And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray
When in the Lord's safe landing net I'm peacefully asleep
That in his mercy I be judged as big enough to keep
Amen:)
RE: Tribute to Billy........
Thanks for the memory of one of my favorite fisherman of all time. I knew Billy pretty well after working on his fishing show "Billy Westmorland's Fishing Diary" for a few years. I'd edit all the commercial breaks into the show and then send the program to one of the many local markets across the mid-west and southeast that aired it. I even got to be a guest on a show once. That is something I will always tresure. My favorite story about Billy is watching him outfish a guide on the guide's home-water (Lake Erie)while Billy used a silver buddy and the guide used live bait! I still have a picture of Billy and I holding a couple of giant smallmouth from that trip hanging in my office.
Have a great trip and rememer, when you're fishing on Dale, you're fishing on hollowed ground. Let us know how you did. I'm heading to Barren this thursday, Friday and Saturday!
RE: Tribute to Billy........
My dad ran into Billy down ay Lake Weiss in Alabama a few years ago. Dad told him how much my son, who was about 8 years old at the time, loved to fish. A week later my son received an autographed picture from Billy in the mail.
THAT is a true sportsMAN.
