Kentucky Lake report
Went to Kentucky this weekend for some fishing and just a little time off.We caught most of our fish shallow on topwater (sammy) and just a few on a c-rig deeper.Wanted to try the ledge fishing more, but with young children out 200 or more feet from the bank, they wouldn't really know what was going on.Plus the weather being like it was I thought you might could catch'em on topwater.Anybody else have any reports from this weekend? Like to know what I could have done better.Thanks.

RE: Kentucky Lake report
I fished Friday night thru Monday morning and also caught my fish shallow. With the North winds and boat traffic I stayed pretty close to camp. Fished main lake points and flats and had some luck. Seems like the bigger fish are starting to chase the fry into the shallower water. I also fished allot of boat docks with a fair amount of success. All in all it was a good weekend, even the wife landed a nice 3 lb smallie. The fishing gods were smiling on us.

RE: Night Bite??
Elnut! I made a weekend trip from central kentucky and fished both barkley, and ky. Caught several nice lm's & a couple of small but fat spots on barkley. We ventured over to ky on sat. evening and fished a hour or so after dark. Fished the lbl side of ky and did well. Had maybe 8-10 smallies, biggest maybe 3lbs. caught several lm's and a few spots. The wind defintely made things interesting. My buddies boat is a 18 ft tracker with a 36lb 12v tm, and it was struggling with the wind. Left my boat in central ky to save some gas money, but man I missed the 71lb 24v. Most all fish cuaght in 3-8 feet of water. a few of the smallies came off main and secondary points with chunk rock. We did some ledge fishing when the wind was calmer, and thats where the bigger fish came from. buddie lost a good 6lb plus lm at the boat trying to be john wayne.lol. I figured I'd share some info with you since you always share some good info on here. Good luck and be safe out there.

Hey Elnut???
Hey, are you planning to fish at night, or day time fishing?
The reason I am asking is that I am considering a little fishing on Friday, possibly launching out of Fenton. I may decide to stay and fish the river, but I really like the lake better.
Anyway, I'm not a night fisherman, and thought if you were going to fish during the day, we might get to say hello, or even fish a little together, at least the same bays to eliminate water.
Hope to hear from you. I won't know for sure if I am going to fish until late Thursday. Mostly depends on how my back is.
Tight lines and God Bless

RE: Kentucky Lake report
We just got back monday night had a great trip fishing and relaxing. Had a group of 10 people some fishermen and some not . Rented a house on the water in Sled Creek . Started fishing Friday morning and we headed straight to deep water drops. The first fish I caught was 5 pound brownie followed by a 7 pound largemouth measuring 24 inches , the largemouth was pretty poor looking and had a worn off, bloody tail ( Summer spawn )???? I guess thats a question for Dave S. A little later on in the day I had another largemouth that went right at 6 pounds. The other boat in our group stayed shallow ( windy )and caught more numbers but not the quality of fish , the biggest they caught was right around 3 pounds. We had a great labor day weekend on one of the best lakes in the country. Catch ya later, Jarrod

RE: Night Bite??
I did fish Sunday evening on the LBL side. That was the only evening that the wind actually laid down some and did pretty well. I threw a CR with a baby brush hog and caught several decent smallies on the first points inside several different large bays. Went back across after sunset and fished main lake flats and points (North of the 68 bridge) Sunday night. Most of my better fish came after 10 P.M. on dark spinners.

I usually stay around Aurora but have been dissapointed in the cleanliness of the 2 places I stay at the past several visits. I usually put in at Fenton or Ken Lake and head north but I think I will stay on North Barkley and launch in the back of Sugar Bay on the LBL side this trip. Save on gas for the boat ride north plus my ABSOLUTE MORNING TOP WATER bite I had all last year has gone elsewhere and I always hit it on the way back to take out in the morning. I launch around 7pm and fish until about 8am the next morning, longer if the morning bite is good. Pro V Deep 17 Tracker with 90 Merc, and the ugliest guy this side of the Mississippi up front (Hopefully with my G Loomis bent double and a nice smallie tugging away). Cell phone is 502-419-1673, I have with me all the time.
Good Luck if you go, hope to see you there

RE: Kentucky Lake report
Just a note here about the summer spawner...I have caught more summer spawners this year than any other year since I have been here...especially in the Sledd Creek area. Sounds like you and a number of folks had a very good bite this weekend. I had a number of reports of good bites this weekend. I was not out there myself...took the holiday weekend off to get a break and spend some time with the missus. Glad you guys had a good bite....be thankful..the bite was tough today...lol..figures it would be when I got back on the water...lol. Saw another guide out there about noon and he was complaining about the tough bite also.

RE: Danny
Thanks elnut... I'll write your cell phone number down and maybe give you a call if I make it down there. Back has been in pretty bad shape today. Doubt I could have fished if I had wanted to today.
I imagine if I do make it I'll head south first. I have a couple of bays that usually hold a lot of grass, and some nice bass. I figure I'll hit them first like I usually do, then work my way back to the north. In other words, it is likely we will miss each other.
Anyway, I'll be in a White and blue TR21.... and a guy who will easily tie you for the ugliest guy this side of the mississippi or the entire country for that matter, will be up front or at the wheel.
Hope you catch them well, and hope we get to say hello.
BTW, my cell is 270-543-0786.
Tight lines and God Bless

RE: Kentucky Lake report
I had a good week end on the big lakes. Was in family fishing mode so we fished mostly small, shallow, and short (time). Saturday morning on KY we caught good numbers on main lake flats / points but no size (1 or 2 keepers). Still a ton of fun catching 20 or 30 smallies plus several other species thrown in for color on the mag-light rods and 4# thread. Sunday we had a great top water bite on Barkley at day break and then moved out to main lake points and caught as many smallies as we did largemouth early. The smallies are picking up on Barkley. Shook one off at the boat around 5. Actually talked the misses into letting me out for a couple more hours after dinner and all totaled I got my limit on smallies Sunday (on Barkley!!!). Monday our bite dropped off on Barkley. Decent top water bite early but the main lake bite dried up. Noticed they cut the current back so maybe that pulled them back. Still can't complain for a casual week end.
