I for one think 100$ is way to much to pay for a winter pass to fish that small creek. and would take my boat to Ikes if i was set on fishing stoner, just my 2 cent worth.

I'm sure hoping he changes his mind on this, I dont know Ikes that well,,,,Happy huntin
Do you get a key for $100.00 or how does that work?
Billy
75-100$ gets you a key
Ben there, done that... On deer hunting leases. Seven people start out with keys and after duplicates are made 16 or 18 keys floating around and you cant keep track of who's comeing or going. Whats going to stop one person with a key, Lets say putting a little tournament on and opening the gate and letting in 10 or 12 boats in, and say another loyal key holder on the creek is already fishing. Oh Boy Here we go. Is it that he doesn't want to keep up with it in the winter, or to keep the campers and Rif Raf out? Cause 75-100$ is to much for a key unless more concrete is on the way for the ramp..LOL I guess if a gate goes up I'll consider its closed for the season at that price... :P
I wonder what the closed season dates are? Maybe he could issue stickers for the trailers once you pay your fee? It won't solve all the problems but it would help. Hopefully he figures out a way to get more money from the campers during their camping season. :-)
My name is Ben Fryman and I am the owner of Fryman's boat dock. I understand your concern with my decision, however I am willing to work with the loyal customers that still come to the dock during the winter. As most of you know my grandfather, Robert Fryman (previous owner) was not able to maintain the dock in his later years. This has built a few problems with troublemakers and maintanence problems with the dock. I must, someway regain control of the dock. There must be a sense of order to the business. If you have other suggestions on how I could do this feel free to let me know, I am open and my main concern is to keep you happy, however, Fryman's Boat Dock will become a Family environment and fishing ground, I will not tolerate the wave runners, vandilism, non-payers or drug problems I have run into in the last few months.
Here is a list of projects that will be finished by next Spring at Fryman's Boat Dock.
1. Boat rentals (6 to 8 boats) 15.00
2. The barn will be restructured into baitshop, will carry ALL tackle, live bait, and supplies. Hours: 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily.
3. Ramp will be widened and repaired, until then if you go in at an angle no boat no matter how big should have a problem docking.
4. We possibly will have boat mechanic.
5. Tournaments and events for children.
6. Electric and water hookups to half the sites.
7. Banks will be cleaned up enabling more bank fishing.
8. Website with products and update of creeks condition.
If you have any suggestions let me know in the near future. If you would like to talk to me personaly I am at the dock during the weekends, however, I am remodeling the house on top of the hill or call me at 859-749-0903.
P.S. I know it is a small creek, but I garantee it is this best bass water in Kentucky, just ask the fisherman that have been down there in the last couple of weeks.
Thankyou for your time and I will check this board daily to keep you updated with my decision.
Ben, I think I speak for all of us here when I say thanks for the effort. We are all in agreeance that stoner creek is a real treasure here in the bluegrass and we all plan on keeping it that way. I understand your issues with the misuse of the campground and such and if a gate is necessary to keep the wrong doers out then that is what you have to do. However, I think you will find, 95% of the fishermen will leave that creek better than they find it and will honor the honor system as far as the drop box. If you choose to go to the gate and key thing, so be it, but $100 is a little steep. Considering during the winter months I may make it over there once or twice a month, it would not be smart for me to pay that. I would probably go $50 and get my moneys worth but that depends on how long the gate will be up (months) and how many times I will be able to go. Another thing you have to consider is will someone with a key bring 2 or 3 buddy boats? or forget and leave the gate open the entire day. Its a predicament indeed, I understand, and with it being your property, ultimately it is your choice. On another note, I would like to start getting a sat. or sun. tourney up over there, I know there are 5-10 people on this board very interested in it. Something small, maybe $30 a boat or somewhere around there. Alright guys, who has the scales.
P.S. Ben Im the younger guy in the black yukon and blue stratos, I was over there on friday, it always helps to put a face with a name.

Well put BUZZKING..And hey Ben I'm sure if you schedule a day for ramp repair, clean up etc, etc. Youll probably get some volunteers headed that way. I'm in. :7
Ben,
I'll echo Buzzking in saying that all of us who fish Stoner appreciate your effort to keep Fryman's open. We all enjoyed saying hello to your Grandfather before hitting the water and appreciate what he did too, even if he was unable to maintain things as he got up in his years.
Stoner is a treasure, absolutely. Speaking selfishly here, I hope there's a way to keep it a great place and a good business for you without it becoming overrun with traffic. I always enjoy the fact that it's usually not crammed up with people. You're going to run a business, and in business people = money...I understand and respect that. There's a lot of water there, but it's still a creek. It's not a lake with multiple ramps and I wonder how it'll handle more traffic and tournaments. Again, speaking selfishly here I know, but I'm not going to go over there and get in line with the tournament traffic if it becomes like Wilgreen Lake where there's a tournament every time you blink. Nothing against the tournament guys, don't take that the wrong way folks...it just brings traffic. I fish to get away from traffic and I'm not the only one. I sat in my boat with a friend of mine and watched a little tournament take off on Stoner running three wide, wide open, and cause a wreck right in front of me. I'm not stereotyping and I know that's just one isolated incident, but it all boils down to traffic.
My little note for the suggestion box would be to limit tournaments to a weeknight or sometime when traffic is usually lower...if that can be done...limit the number of boats, something. I'm selfish, I know, but I don't want to see such a great place become overrun and pressured to death. It's probably unreasonable of me to think that way, but I can't help it.
Good luck Ben!
I'll stop by and introduce myself next time I'm over there. I'll be the fat dude in the new blue Tracker. haha As BanditMan said, you'll have volunteers for ramp clean up if you need'em!
Ben,
I have been going to Fryman's ramp for many years now and as stated by Brian i always chatted with your Grandfather when i could. I know you want to improve the place but really all i see or wish for is an improved ramp and if you want an annual fee so be it.
If you have any concerns from a security standpoint i could review them with you, just email me at I'm in that business and would be happy to answer any questions and give you an idea of cost or just to be a sounding board. I hope you the best of luck. Don :-)
Right on slipshot, If your wanting to make this a family place keep the turneys during the week, Thats the reason i stopped fishing willgreen lake, Got to where you couldn't fish a bank without tournament fisherman pulling up on top of you or cutting you off. And the 100$ charge is too much...I hope you reconsider that Ben. Happy huntin
