Hawk Boats
Hey everybody,
I've come across a really great deal on a 1998 Hawk 1800DC with a 175 Evinrude. The manufacturer was in production from 1997 - 2000, by a Mr. John Stories Hawk - formerly of Champion Boats. My question is, do any of you own one of these boats? Have you heard anything positive or negative about this brand of boat?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Regards,
Scott

RE: Hawk Boats
That cat can crank out some hulls, I would be willing to be its a good boat, he doesnt create a bad one.

RE: Hawk Boats
Really? What do you know about him?
-
RE: Hawk Boats
post something over on the champion thread or general topics about him, apparently hes a hull madman, there are some threads overthere about hawks and him, if you can dig them up

RE: Hawk Boats
Hey thanks again for that link! Sounds like the hull is a good find, but the motor is junk based on reviews.
Apparently an Envirude FICHT is a nightmare! Anyone else feel this way?

RE: Hawk Boats
I have never owned a FICHT but heard they had several problems with them. Kerry Clark At Jetta Marine (270)395-4030 could tell you about them.

RE: Hawk Boats
Scott,
Just like the first opti-maxs, the first fichts were riddled with problems. Mostly the 200 and above hps had the biggest problems from what I've read and heard. I had heard the Ficht 150 and 175 were excellent.
I'd have the motor checked out, but it is possible it is a good motor.
Good luck,
Tight lines and God Bless

RE: Hawk Boats
Thanks for all the info guys. I decided to pass up the boat. After careful research,I found out that a 1998 Evinrude FICHT is a bad deal and that Hawk Boats had a few reoccurring laminate problems. It is possible that it might make a good boat, but the Magic 8-ball is telling me that "Signs point to NO" :)

RE: Hawk Boats
I've never heard anything good about the Fichts. I have a buddy that had a 150 ficht on an 18 foot Gambler. It was so bad that he wound up actually keeping a spare engine in his garage. When one would go down with a problem, he could swap them out in about an hour.
After both the main and spare blew up, he got out of the fichts.
I've never ridden in a Hawk, but I've heard several good things about them. Nice ride, but not the fastest boat on the water. Not a tub, but not blazing speed.
I'm more about good ride than I am speed, so a boat like a Hawk would appeal to me.
