I'm a novice at striper fishing and I'm headed to Cumberland next weekend to try it for the second time; the first time produced no fish. I was hoping you could answer a couple of questions that would help me out. 1.) what type of live bait did you use. 2.) how did you present the bait; drop line, troll, drift, etc... If you would prefer e-mail to posting to reply, I'm at . Thanks.
Hope you threw them back or had 3 other people in the boat as the limit is 2. ;-) We killed them in the jumps on Friday morning, and then caught a few Saturday about 35ft deep.
We used shad i got from a friend of mine down at the dock. Shiners will work also but not as well. I typically just hang rods over the side of the boat and use a carolina rig with 1oz to 2oz weights(2-3ft leader). I count down and try to keep my baits wherever i see fish on my graff. I troll extremely slow!!! I was lucky enough to pull right up on top of them. Some days, like others, i can't find them. Good luck!!
It was just me and a friend... We strong armed the fish in as quick as possible and released them all but 2! They seemed to be fine when released!!! I might have told a slight fish story though... I don't think we caught 12...LOL
Thanks for helping a striper want-to-be get closer to his goal.
going down sunday to try to get some stripers, any body catch any this last week? if so what part of the lake
Your better than me for I pulled boards on the same Jamestown wall a large part of the day on Monday set at 40-60 feet with shiners and never got a sniff. Never saw a jump for 3 days and landed 1 - 22 pounder for over 30 hours of pulling boards in 3 days. Congrats on however many you did catch.
We were down on Monday, all the fish were up by the dam in 60foot, talked with a few guides and they say the turnover will happen in another week or so, and fish will be back up in 20-30 in creeks. The part that #### is that puts them on about first week of deer season....lol
good luck and good fishin all

I doubt they made it if they were keepers. The water temp needs to be below 62 before you should consider releasing unless they were really small. Above 62, anything keeper size or bigger, catch your four and go home. Even though they look like they are fine when released, they will die and sink.
