Muskie in Ky Lake
I was fishing in Anderson Friday afternoon and caught a 24inch Muskie. I really didn't know there were muskie in Ky. I was really surprised when he surfaced. He had a bunch of sores around his mouth and one large one that looked more like a tumor coming out the corner of his mouth. I don't fish Ky often. Is this unusual or common???

RE: Muskie in Ky Lake
Don: Unusual to get Muskie here....have heard of a few of them being taken over the years but not common. There are a good number of pickeral here though and it is not unusual to catch one in Anderson.
By the way how did you do Friday? We had a pretty good bite on Friday. Spinnerbaits shallow and jerkbaits on points.

RE: Muskie in Ky Lake
Dave did fair on Friday. Had two really nice keepers and three that were just short. I need to get down there more often. The pattern I was using was straight out of your fishing report......Thanks

RE: Muskie in Ky Lake
If it was 24 inches it is more likely to have been a Pickerel. I caught one a few years back at another lake in Western Kentucky.. and thought the same thing, at first. Got home and looked him up and same head configuration at that size but color is greener.

RE: Muskie in Ky Lake
I've experienced catching both Pickerel and Muskie on Kentucky Lake. I've caught a few Pickerel on crankbaits and spinnerbaits. They all ran approximately 20 to 24 inches My dad caught the only Muskie I've seen out of Ky Lake on a crappie minnow below a slip bobber. There is a definited difference in the body shape in these species. The Pickerel run skinnier. The markings on the Pickerel are more horizontal like a Northern Pike. The Musky was proportionately broader and it had more vertical markings. It measured 30 inches.
