Is flippin in stained water a tournament winning technique in the Winter? A old timer was telling me today to ditch the jiggin spoon and float-n-fly in the winter if there is stained to muddy water. Most people will agree that cold, stained water is the toughest bass fishing scenario. Please shed some light......

when the water gets below 50 fnf is the way to go. just as an example..... i fished tons of open tournaments at cumberland last year out of conley. last winter we had a good area in the upper end of the lake where we were catching largemouths. it was in dec-jan and the water was in the upper 40s. most weekend we would come in with 12-15 lbs. i can even remember one weekend we came in with 18lbs and did not even GET A CHECK! every weekend it took about 19-21 lbs of smallies. the same guys kept winning and i know for a fact they were throwing the fnf. when the water gets that cold it truly is the way to go. but untill it gets that cold you can still catch them pretty good on other things. i also remember a day last year we came in with 17lbs of largemouth all caght on a deep crank in 47 degree water, needless to say i was amazed. just let the fish tell you! drew
I agree with what Drew said, but for the FnF in stained water, that’s another story. Usually you will want to fish in where the water is clearer since there isn’t much attracting fish to the fly besides sight.
Stained water and the Fly= Darker color,,,,,just ask BJE.
