Fishing liscense 20 bucks?
Wow.Just got back from the boat show,I didnt know they went up 5 bucks this year.My buddy lives in Indiana and an out of state is 50 bucks this year.Oh and by the way if you get an upland reservoir poster from the KDFW booth it has freshwater jellyfish on it.John
Re: Fishing liscense 20 bucks?
My daughter got mine for me for a Christmas presant so I didn't have to buy mine. I still think it is very cheap considering everything. I am sure non resident fishermen won't like the increrease in prices but KDFW needs the funds I am sure. I probably would compalin, but would even pay more for the use I get from my license fishing.

It's a bargain. That's less than a night at the movies by a long shot and much better entertainment.
Re: Fishing liscense 20 bucks?
Not complaining really, just a little surprised.Id pay a hundred if that is what it cost.Oh yea i also met the referee from ultimate match fishing, very nice guy.John
Re: Fishing liscense 20 bucks?
I don't mind the $20 bucks, just easier to swallow smaller increases each year, rather than a large increase. I can't understand why the kdfwr hasn't figured out they would actually recieve more revenue that way. If they had a $1 increase each year for 5 yrs. They would have gained more revenue than they will this way, they missed 4 yrs of increased revenue. Just a thought.

Re: Fishing liscense 20 bucks?
I buy the Sportsmans License every year, this year it is $95 but I'm glad to pay it. All moneys that go for license go back into the resource and the Sportsmen in Kentucky are very luck we have a GREAT resource.

The increase is fine by me...if KDFWR says it's needed then I suppose it's needed. Also guys...when you all file your taxes don't forget there's a place on there where you can donate to KDFWR, assuming you get a return of course.

The only thing I have a problem with is the non-resident fee. My out of state friends and family aren't into fishing as much as I am and at most visit once a year. If I want to take them out to the lake for a weekend and do a little fishing while I'm out there, that's $20.00 per person for the two days on the lake. Since they aren't into fishing much but "want to try it" I feel I should cover their license fees because I know if they had to pay $20 each they would probably say they don't want to fish, which means I don't get to fish. If 3 friends come that is $60 spent just so they can get a couple hours of "trying it". The price is extreamly expensive for what they get out of it and in my situation it would be cheaper if I took them out to the movies.
This issue is complicated even more if they plan a vaction here for 5 to 7 days. If I take them to the lake various days during their vacation I either have to run to store everyday we decide to fish to get them licenses or just pay the $50 for an annual license so I have them covered for the entire time they are here. Now we are talking $150 in license fees for people that "want to try it" for a few days. Needless to say I don't go fishing much when my friends and family come to visit from out of state and my friends don't get to "try fishing" on Kentucky's lakes.
There is a huge difference between an angler from Ohio with a boat on Cumberland getting an annual fishing license and someone from Missouri coming to Kentucky for a visit and wants to "give fishing a try" for a couple hours.
There really is no way to make the distinction between the two types of out of state anglers so I don't know that there is a solution. All I know is that it is a high cost for out of state people who aren't that into fishing and that prevents me from taking them as much as I would like.
Re: Fishing liscense 20 bucks?
First weekend in June is FREE fishing weekend. Our License Fees are equal or cheaper then most States. I for one don't have a problem charging out of Staters more. The people who live here support the resources thru taxes, license and fees paid all year. As long as it goes into the resource I'm fine with it. I like most here would pay $500 a year if I had to, fishing is in my blood I'm not very good at it but I dam sure Enjoy it kind of like S E X.

I am like most of the guys that have responded. I dont mind the increase. I am 53 and have saw hunting and fishin get really poor in this state but with KDFWR they have worked hard to bring it back. My hats off to those guys and girls. All of us know that things get more expensive every year for us and so it does for them. I will gladly pay my fees and thank the KDFWR for their fine work.
