Re: JamesTown Ramp
Hello to the group. I would like to answer some of the statements made about towing and booting on our ramp at Jamestown. but first I would like to say fisherman are more then welcome at JRM. and the staff will work with you in anyway we can to make your visit an enjoyable one. We have the lower part of the ramp coned off and no parking signs up as we are working to get ready for the corp to extend two of our lanes so that we will have 3 useable lanes this season. during the week please do not park below the cones as this is for workers and heavy equipment. The launch ramp one-way road is now closed for about 2 to 3 weeks as we are clearing underbrush from along the road way for more parking. We will have to restrict this parking to cars and trucks only "NO Trailer" . This is so that we can provide more parking for those who come to JRM. We are also clearing underbrush from the sides of our gravel trailer parking lot. this way all trailers can be parked "Head In" instead of longways. This alone will add about 55 more spaces for trailers. We are looking into clearing in other areas for more parking also.
Our ramp has signs stating where the 5 min loading and unloading zones are . where handicaped parking is and where no parking is allowed. We have yellow strips and no parking painted on the pavement in these areas. We also have signs stating where tow zones and the fines zones are. This is to keep the ramp safe and traffic flowing without cars, trucks, and trailers blocking your way. I am the one who put the warning tickets on the five trucks parked in the loading zone with their trailers attached protruding out into the ramp area last week. this was a Warnings as I knew these fisherman were not regulars at JRM. I stated that they would be towed if not moved within 4 hours. I also stated that the fine for parking in a loading zone and having you trailer on the ramp was a $50.00 min. As stated this was a Warning they were NOT find nor were they towed, BUT They clearly disregarded the signs and were so warned. Our ramp is well marked with signs and we are working to improve in this area.
We have a honor box located on the wooden walkway for your launch fee's when the officer is not at the ramp, lthis is a large silver box with large blue letters stating "HONOR BOX" on the front.
During the daytime hours there are two Commissioned Peace Officers on Duty at JRM Should you have any questions please call on marine channel # 14 . Jamestown Marina is patroled 24/7 by Law Enforcement Officers for your safety and protection. We are here to help you enjoy your visit to the lake.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions about your visit to Jamestown Resort Marina.
with best regards

hi Peter sorry i will miss you tomorrow but Curt will be working. kind of under the weather and taking a sick day tomorrow. No park in the paved lot to the left of the guard shack. the sign says boat rental lot. tell everyone to use that lot till April 1st. during the winter Nov to April we let fisherman park their trucks and trailers in that lot. saves them a long walk. well at 680ft elv. it saves them a longer walk LOL.
take care Tony

halcomb's
Lake Cumberland February 22, 2007
I talked with the security guard at Halcomb Thursday and he told me; Halcomb is closed between the hours of 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Monday thru Friday due to blasting rock on the hill. There is no blasting on Saturday and Sunday and the ramp is open all day. I also ask him if any one was having trouble launching boats due to the water level and he said he knew of no one having any trouble.
When I was there Thursday there was only one lonely pickup truck and boat trailer in the parking lot. Every thing else was construction related.

Basically below the water surface you see here you are on what appears to be lake bottom. It is hard and a little uneven. Maybe it is just junk that has settled on top of the concrete ramp..don't know.
I made it in with my van, which is low and I need a fairly steep ramp to get in.

Peter: what you saw was junk that has washed over the concrete during the years. this ramp was extended in 79 by the corp. just a lot of junk on it. we have launched a 45 footer this week without problems. Gary and his crew has moved a lot of the logs and junk that had been lost overboard by boaters over the years so it is a lot cleaner now.
the two lanes to your left in the pic are the one's we are working to have extended by april.
thanks for the pic

Great! Good to hear that.

A guy was asking about the Grider ramp extension. I posted a photo of it.
How thick will the concrete be on the ramp extensions?
At Grider it looked like they formed the extension on the ramp and then will push it into the water when hardened. Is that how it works?
Thanks
Re: Jamestown ramp photos 3-1-07
They plan to push it into place in 7 day's from the pour.
Re: Jamestown ramp photos 3-1-07
Peter
the corp told me they would pour 20x30 slabs and then push them into the water after they setup.
as for a date it should be sometime this month i will have to get back with them for an update

Not much parking. I think about 10 of the spaces shown are reserved for people working on the dam.
Re: Jamestown ramp update 3-27-07
Peter just wanted to give everyone a quick update on the ramp and parking this season. We started work on the ramp the 25th. we now have one slab in the water on lane #2. We hope to form up and pour another slab this week. it will take 7 days for it to setup enought for us to get it in the water. We have the top of the ramp coned off. Please everyone park above these cones as the contractors are working and moving equipment about the ramp and cars and trucks parked within 200 feet of the water will hamper their work.
I am working with the CORP to get a 3rd lane extended while the contractors have their equipment here. Everyone cross your fingers lol. Lane #1 will take a 75 foot trailer as of yesturday . We had a transport company launch a cruiser on a 75foot trailer without any problems.
A update for Fishermen. Thank you for using our ramp this season you have been a great bunch of guys. We hope that you can fish out of Jamestown Marina this coming fall and look forward to having you as our guests. We will be starting our season the 15th of April so i wanted to give you a Heads Up on trailer parking. on or about the 13th we will put the "NO TRAILER" signs back up on the roadway So please take your trailers to the gravel lot and drop them. We will not be able to let you use the boatrental or lodge parking lots again till season's End.
We have removed a lot of the undergrowth from the sides of the gravel parking lot so that long trailers can be parked HEAD-IN. Trailers over 45 foot need to be dropped at the North end of the lot. To save space for others there will be NO LONGWAYS Parking. You Must park Head-in. This will give us room for about 50 more trailers. Also NO trailers over 15 foot will be allowed on the West Side between the Taxi Pick Up Station and the first power Pole. This is because of the narrow turning area entering and leaving the lot. There will be NO cars or trucks allowed to be left on these trailers.
Due to the large number of NEW comers to Jamestown Marina this season we have been required to STOP all trailer parking on the launch ramp road. You will notice we have cleared the shoulder of the road on the left side to allow for car and truck parking only. If you park a trailer Pleased be forewarned IT WILL BE TOWED at your expense. There will be signs stating NO TRAILERS along the roadway. This means all the way to the Ramp Area. We expect a lot of oversized boats to be launched from Jamestown this season that can not launch anywhere else. with this in mind we will need all the room we have on the launch ramp road .so parking will be limited to cars and trucks only.
We have added more parking on the right side of the launch ramp road just before you get to the first dry storage building. Please Head In parking only.
We will be running two land taxi's this season on weekends with extended hours and one during the week.
On the water we will have two water taxi's running weekends with extended hours also. There will be staff waiting at the top of the stairway to help our slip owners with their gear. Our boat rental guests will be picked up at the ramp in a pontoon and transported to your rental boat.
I will have security on the ramp this weekend to help with any questions on parking and other issues. Please feel free to call me at 270-343-5253 ext 681 or on channel # 14 if you have any questions on the above.
Re: Jamestown & Halcomb's ramp details
Any Updates? Do you still have to be gone from Halcomb's during the weekday afternoons. I was thinking of trying Fall Creek is it usable for launching and can you camp?
