Re: major News of the day..
Jim,
Not to cause any problems here, but having worked full-time for some small town newspapers, it is regrettable, but yet understandable why this happened.
Small staff, tight deadlines and most importantly, they are not on the list to get the press releases from B.A.S.S. as you and I did.
BTW, if you can, e-mail me the young man's phone number because I am going to do something as well.
Tim
Re: major News of the day..
The Madisonville Messenger has yet after 2 weeks to run any kind of story on Junior Bass Champ Kalem Tippett. Even after being contacted.
A phone call to the paper was answered by an unnamed gentleman. He proceeded to tell me he was not aware of such a story.
Now I guess the news room might not have gotten the nice press release from the support staff that B.A.S.S sends out. After all things happen. Still last year when Kalem won the state championship, his father had to take a picture and a story down before the paper recognized his achievement.
All the while running on the front page the "YOU KNOW WHO" Cheater scandal. (We don't talk about the Barkley Cheaters if we can help it.)
I got a call while on the phone so I had to call back and leave a message. I left the phone number of the young man and his family.
NOW... can anyone tell me the last time a small town paper in this country had a young man to win a National Championship and did not run it on the front page?
This is an afront to fishermen in the great Commonwealth of Kentucky.
This paper is promoting one image. That of fishermen being cheaters and ignoring a nice young man's achievements and leaving them to be trumpeted by the State Paper the Courier Journal ONLY.
(Of Course you read the news Kalem won... first .. here on Fishin.com thanks to some terrific reporting by board members.)
Kalem, congratulations. I have contacted Kalem and I am in the process of getting a picture and story together.

As always this story is the work and opinion of the writer and has nothing to do with Fishin.com, its owners or advertisers.
Thanks Jim, if any kid in the world desired it it would be Kalem. He and his whole family are GREAT people as far as I am concerned. People this kid can fish and he loves it I would fish a Tourney with him in the boat anyday and not think about it twice. Heck I enjoy just fishing with him period.
The newpapers are one thing the other is why wasn't it even mentioned, maybe it was and I did not see it, during the Classic coverage. That to me is even worse than the newspapers.
People if you ever get a chance to meet this young man you should it will be worth you time.
Re: major News of the day..
Thanks Jim. Since Kalem's house is less than 10 miles from Madisonville, they more than likely heard about Kalem's accomplishment, but chose not to print the story. Young men like Kalem who are quiet, respectful, thoughtful and considerate are not likely to get much press anywhere nowadays. Being a young man of high moral standards and class does not fit our culture. But in the end the cream will rise.
