ranger 492vs setup
just wondering if anyone on here runs one or knows who does.Trying to set up one for a buddy and i can't seem to get it going,it has little bow lift and any positive trim and it roostertails a mile high,it has a turbo 2+2 4blde prop and i think that it's the culprit so i'm wondering what anyone runs.tried the bassbt central but no help.thanks to anyone who can help.

Re: ranger 492vs setup
What HP motor? I have a Merc EFI 225 and I run Tempest 24P with only one of the "vent" plugs installed, just haven't had a chance to try it with no plugs yet. Gets out of the hole okay for that size of boat. WOT turning 48-52 pending on how much fuel is onboard, and outside temps. You might be able to turn a 25P Tempest you would just have to see what works best.

Re: ranger 492vs setup
well that's another thing,it has a 250 efi pwer head but all the "stuff" is a 225 so i am figuring it at a 225,it is turning almost 6000 but it only runs low to mid 60's,he runs heavy too so i did the usaul move things around and it helped a little,i noticed that prop is a small hub so my thinking is it is blowing the water off it at high speed killing the bite,it has good holeshot but that's it.
plus it has been reworked and it don't look like it has near enough cup, ican barely feel it.what speed do you get i' think it should be a solid high 60's but this thing is a boxcar.do you have a jackplate added and what holes is it mounted in?
thanks

Re: ranger 492vs setup
I'm not running a jackplate, not sure what hole its bolted in I'll check and let you know. The rooster tail is about perfect, about the height of the outboard. I'll run 65-67 with a loaded boat, gas, two people, all kinds of spare crap, and tackle. I fastest I've notice 73.2 GPS with a 'light' load. If you want to test run a 24p Tempest email me and we can work out the details.

Re: ranger 492vs setup
i would try a 25 trophy if you can find one to try .gives you agood hole shot, boat lift & top end speed. motor should be mounted approimately 2-3 inches above transom.

Re: ranger 492vs setup
thanks fellas i'll let you know what happens when we get back at it,his is mounted with the bolts in the top hole, which makes the motor at its lowest height,it was factory mounted there looks like.I havn't got to run it and drive it,he is a full throttle trim all the way to the stop and hang on so i think he is over trimming too but what i've seen when he goes by it has no lift since it starts roosting as soon as it planes off.
