Beaver Creek on Barren

Hey folks me again: Well we took off after supper tonight and we went to Beaver creek ramp for a couple of hours, the cats were still hot, but I got a few surprises tonight. I have heard about white bass and yellow bass being in the lake ever since I started fishing it and that to long to remember. The thing is I had never seen one much less caught one. Well tonight I must have hit a small school of yellows I caught 5 of them in about 15 minutes these guys might have weighed 12 to 16 0zs at best but they were tough little guys and then I caught about 4 small what I thought were hybrids untill I looked a little closer and 2 of them were white bass about the size of the yellows. How big do the whites and yellows normally get. They are some great swimmers they ran like red fish so any of you guys know about these little fighters.

I think the white bass top out around 4-5 lbs. They have alot of fight in them. I caught a few at nolin that would go about 2lbs. During July and Aug. they will get in the jumps on Barren for the first couple of hrs. of daylight . I have only seen them do this around the islands but I'm sure it happens in other spots. They love roostertails and curly tail jigs.

I've caught 3lb stripe (White Bass) out of barren. As for the yellows I think the state record is 1.1lbs. Barren is now full of them. I've heard rumor that they got stocked accidently a couple years ago when they were restocking stripe. Its just my opinion, but I wish these fish had never got stocked in Barren. I mostly bass fish but they have worried me to death several times trying to crappie and stripe fish.
