Any idea's?
I experienced some odd fishing today and was curious if anyone has had this experience? The Bass were not on any beds that i could see and they were taking my soft plastics hard and swimming off with it but when i set the hook the bait came back with the barely pushed through the texposed plastic! Very frustrating:) to say the least. I don't think they were taking the bait off the bed and when i hooked a few their tails were very clean (no red or raw fins). I started catching them once i hammered them as they hit the bait instead of waiting. I even saw a few of them take the bait since the water was 1-3 foot. A couple of times i let them actually pull my rod down before i set the hook and i realized after a few of those dry hooksets that wasn't working. Anyone else had this happen? What did you do? Oh, the fish i did catch were 14-16 inch fish so i don't think they were Redeye or small bass.

Re: Any idea's?
For the most part I beleive the spawn is over. There may be some straglers left, but I think the false spring we had messed alot of timing up. As for the missed fish I too have had that problem. Had a couple of what felt like good fish hit and carry a Tiki-stick, set the hook, be 3-5 seconds into a good fight and turn it loose. Bring the bait in and the hook had never left the bait. And it was skin hooked at that. I think in some situations a bass bites down on a soft plastic so hard that they'll hang on till you just take it away from them. Very frustrating indeed.

Re: Any idea's?
What a difference today. We had all of the bass in the boat but one and it held on so well that i launched it 5 feet toward the boat before it let go and splashed me. That was some cold water at 8am with the wind and cool temps. We stuck 'em today! :)

Yeah man....today was different for sure, but had fun.
Got out early this morning with DJD for a little wind-whipped bassin...man that wind could blow a chill right through you today. Showed up in short sleeves and it wasn't long before the jacket came out of storage...BRRRRRR.
The water was up at least a foot from Saturday and stained. Water temps ranged from 66-69 throughout the morning. The pattern from Saturday wasn't exactly in-tact, but we managed. Zoom Nail Worm, Snoozer Tube, and Buckeye Soft Jerk were the money winners. Nine fish in the boat, one of which was a catfish that hunkered down in the grass on Don and made us think that a pig beast state record largemouth was on the hook. I did luck into a solid little 4-pound largemouth that destroyed a soft jerkbait and took me for a nice ride on a 7' Medium-Light creekin' rod.
Thanks for the trip Don...here are some pictures:

If the weekdays at Cedar aren't packed, I'm feeling a sick day coming on...
